Job Description

Position Overview:

The Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department (OTRD) is seeking a skilled and experienced lead data analyst to play a key role in managing and analyzing tourism-related data to drive data-driven decision-making and enhance tourism outcomes across the state. This position involves designing and writing complex queries to address various data requests, generating reports and dashboards to effectively communicate tourism data, and ensuring the accuracy and quality of data across multiple tourism domains.

Essential Functions:
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Oversee the collection, analysis, and interpretation of tourism-related data to provide actionable insights. Design and write complex queries to fulfill data requests and provide in-depth analysis. Develop and maintain comprehensive reports, dashboards, and data visualizations for internal and external stakeholders, enabling better decision-making.
  • Leadership and Mentorship: Foster a collaborative and data-driven culture. Promote best practices in data analysis and reporting, ensuring the delivery of high-quality work.
  • Data Strategy and Governance: Collaborate with senior management to develop data strategies that align with OTRD's goals and objectives. Ensure data quality and integrity by implementing robust data validation and cleansing processes. Monitor data compliance and recommend improvements where necessary.  Design and build a robust enterprise reporting platform using Power BI or it’s marketplace equivalent. 
  • Tourism Insights: Apply data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities within Oklahoma’s tourism sector. Provide insights that help shape marketing strategies, enhance visitor experiences, and drive tourism growth.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Five (5) years of experience in data analysis, preferably in a tourism or related context.
  • Five (5) years of experience with data management and governance.
  • Successful completion of a skills assessment as part of the interview process.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of relevant experience for each year of the required education.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience with tourism data standards and practices.
  • Knowledge of tourism policies and industry trends.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Work is typically performed in a climate-controlled office setting with moderate noise levels. The position requires prolonged periods of sitting and frequent use of a computer and telephone. Occasional travel within Oklahoma may be required.
