Description

White Swan Data is a small but rapidly growing team of mathematicians, data scientists and software engineers who are constantly striving to refine world class betting models while also researching and deploying new ones. Our work bridges three domains, each challenging in its own right - betting and gambling, quantitative research and software development.

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Quantitative Researcher (Quant) to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in mathematical modelling, with a PhD in a relevant field and a deep interest in leveraging machine learning techniques for quantitative research. Candidates with postdoctoral research experience or relevant industry research experience are highly preferred. Special consideration will be given to those with experience in sports modelling, making them a valuable addition to our analytics team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and refine quantitative models using mathematical and machine learning techniques.
  • Conduct in-depth research to identify, analyse, and solve complex problems within various domains, including sports analytics and other quantitative fields.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop data-driven insights and contribute to the design and testing of trading or decision-making strategies.
  • Explore and evaluate new quantitative techniques and machine learning methods to enhance existing models and systems.
  • Utilize advanced statistical techniques and mathematical frameworks to optimize model performance and ensure robustness.
  • Present findings and insights clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Required Qualifications
  • PhD in a relevant field such as Mathematical Modelling, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or Physics.
  • Proven expertise in mathematical modelling and the ability to develop complex quantitative models.
  • Postdoctoral research experience or other significant academic/industry research experience is highly desirable.
  • Solid programming skills, with proficiency in languages such as Python, R, or C++, and experience with data science and machine learning libraries.
  • Strong understanding of advanced statistical techniques, probability theory, optimization, and numerical analysis.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated experience in sports modelling, with a deep understanding of quantitative techniques used in the analysis of sports performance and predictions.
  • Proficiency in machine learning methods, with experience in applying these techniques to solve real-world problems.
  • A track record of publishing research or contributing to high-impact projects in the field of machine learning or quantitative modelling.
  • Experience with large datasets, including data cleaning, feature extraction, and model evaluation.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities, with a creative and analytical mindset.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Key Competencies
  • Strong analytical thinking and mathematical skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex quantitative ideas clearly and effectively.
  • A passion for research and staying updated on the latest trends in machine learning, mathematical modelling, and sports analytics.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and results-driven.
