Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, the Director, Data Management will focus on strategic development and operation of the data management practice, including managing staffing requirements, optimizing processes and technology, and ensuring a high availability analytical platform. The data management director will also work closely with other IT directors, business partners, and stakeholders in other departments in order to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support analytics solutions to deliver essential data to satisfy their information needs.

How you will make an impact

Data Strategy & Architecture

  • Participate in strategic and operational governance processes of the business as a member of the senior technology team.
  • Lead strategic and operational planning for the organization’s Data Management practices, focusing on meeting business needs and requirements through data functions.
  • Identify opportunities for the organization to further leverage data and improve its economic, competitive, and operational positioning.
  • Create and manage the organization’s data strategy.
  • Partner closely with IT peers (Infrastructure & Operations; Application Management, Security; Business Acceleration) as needed.
  • Assess and review the new technology opportunities related to Data Management and how these will impact the organization’s Data Management operations.

    Data Management & Engineering

    • Establish Data Management goals, objectives, and operating procedures.
    • Identify cost savings and process improvement opportunities for the Data Management team and the greater business.
    • Lead management reviews and opportunity assessment processes that identify improvement opportunities related to: process efficiency, cost savings, business model expansion, and competitive advantages.
    • Approve, prioritize, and control projects and the project portfolio related to Data Management, coordinating with the Project Management Office where necessary.
    • Ensure continuous delivery of data services, through oversight of service level agreements and performance targets.
    • Establish a data science practice, including a staffing model and roadmap to demonstrate value to the organization.

    Data Governance

    • Champion data governance at BioScript.
    • Establish data governance roles (data steward, data owner, etc.) and identify appropriate players across BioScript. Form and oversee the data council.
    • Understand and monitor the regulatory and security requirements for data related to the industry in which the organization operates; ensuring compliance and proper protection occurs.
    • Oversee the end-to-end management of the organization’s data assets (data lifecycle, information lifecycle).
    • Ensure data system operations adhere to regulatory compliance standards.
    • Ensure data assets in the organization are managed in a secure manner, adhering to security and privacy requirements.
    • Establish controls for ensuring efficient and effective data management functions are performed.

    Reporting & Business Intelligence 

    • Understand the different business requirements for data (patient support programs, clinic operations, pharmacy operations, finance, etc.) and work with stakeholders to define business and systems requirements for new information technologies, particularly in the areas of BI, analytics, and data warehousing.
    • Promote BI program within BioScript.
    • Work with business intelligence specialists and/or competency centers in our various
    • Examine, refine, and develop BI metrics.
    • Develop, implement, and maintain all key BI and data management policies and procedures, including those for BI/EDW architecture, data centers, standards, purchasing, monitoring, and service provision.

    Leadership

    • Foster a FeedForward culture by sharing real-time feedback focused on Team Member growth and development.
    • Commit to a minimum of monthly 1:1 with direct reports to focus on operational and development goals.

    What you’ll bring to our team

    • 10+ years’ experience working in Data Management or closely related technology fields.
    • 5+ years’ experience managing and/or directing a Data Management operation or team.
    • University degree or higher in the fields of computer science, business administration, engineering, or similar.
    • Extensive experience with corporate Data Governance.
    • Experience in strategic planning and initiative designs.
    • Experience or knowledge of the data requirements for the specialty pharmaceutical and/or medical industry.
    • Knowledge of the different disciplines of data management is preferred. Familiarity with references such as DMBoK (or similar) is a plus.
    • Strong technical knowledge related to the IT space, particularly in the technology assets related to the business’s IT operations.
    • Strong understanding of how different departments (e.g., patient support programs, clinic operations, pharmacy operations, finance) will have different data uses and requirements.
    • Proven experience in Data Management planning, organization, and development.
    • Strong understanding of project management.
    • Excellent interpersonal and management skills.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, and ideally both English and French.
    • Self-motivated and action oriented.
    • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
    • Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language.
