Analytics Engineer

Location: London (Hybrid)

Reports to: Product Manager

The role

Our analytics engineering function involves leveraging vast user data to drive business strategy and improve user experiences. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in data modelling, building high-quality data assets using DBT in Big Query, as part of our Google Cloud infrastructure. Additionally, the role would also entail responsibilities of creating and maintaining the semantic modelling layer in our modern BI tool.  This role will be part of a highly collaborative team focused on delivering innovative products and features.

What you’ll be doing

Working in a multi-disciplinary data team, you will:

  • Model, build and productionise robust data assets using infrastructure set up by the data engineers.
  • Ensure that the data is transformed and of high quality before consumption by downstream users.
  • Maintain the data catalogue to support self-service and a single-source-of-truth for analytics.
  • Document and expose data assets in a way that is easy to understand and consume by users.
  • Apply (and advocate) engineering best practices and standards to our analytics codebases.
  • Collaborate with data users to understand requirements and define successful analytics outcomes.
  • Train and support team members and stakeholders to use business intelligence and visualisation tools.
  • Analyse workflows and collaborate with the data engineers to improve performance and maintainability.
  • Be proactive and identify opportunities for the team and organisation to reduce complexity and cost.

We’re looking for someone who

  • Has excellent communication skills and is comfortable in building strong relationships, resolving conflicts, and conveying ideas effectively.
  • Works well with others, can contribute to a team, and collaborate across diverse groups of people
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills – able to tackle complex problems, make informed decisions, and think creatively.
  • Is open to new ideas, embracing change, and quickly adjusting to evolving circumstances.
  • The ability to prioritize tasks, set goals, and manage time efficiently is essential
  • Enjoys continuous learning and keeping up with technological advancements
  • Shows a pro-active approach to solving different issues within the team or within Rightmove.

What you’ll bring to the role

  • Multiple years of experience working within the data space as an engineer or analyst.
  • An ability to write and optimise complex SQL queries without thinking about it.
  • Extensive experience building robust, reliable, and high-quality data assets.
  • Experience with modelling data for consumption by business intelligence platforms.
  • Experience with business intelligence tools, especially Looker.
  • Plentiful experience working alongside engineers and knowledge of engineering best practices.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills (connect engineering and analytics teams).

These are not essential, but we'd love to hear about any experience you have with:

  • Writing Python code, and experience applying best practices like version control and CI/CD.
  • Cloud-based data warehouses (e.g. Big Query, Redshift, Snowflake).
  • Data orchestration frameworks (e.g. Airflow, Luigi, Apache NiFi).
  • Modern data modelling tools (e.g. dbt, Fivetran, Stitch).
  • An ability to facilitate teamwork between technical and business teams to reach consensus.
