Location: Cape Town

Reporting Line: Head of Learning Technology

Working Practices: Minimum two days a week in the office with option to work remotely for remaining three days

Contract type: Fixed-term contract linked to the project (The project is anticipated to run until July 2026)

Role summary

We are seeking an exceptional Specialist Learning Technologist with a nuanced understanding of Learning Management Systems and sound development experience with associated web technologies and platforms. This individual will provide leadership within the core learning technology team and across multiple projects in the development of strategic approaches for the integration of technology, accessibility implementation, UX/UI design consideration and code documentation into various interventions across other departments, as well as provide consultative and facilitative support on current best practices, innovations and emerging trends in the Edtech space. The specialist role will entail sales enablement support for our account directors on prospecting new and existing clients.

Key responsibilities:

Resource Management

  • Supports HR and the Head of Learning Technology in recruitment drives and conducting of interviews, 

Technical Implementation of Digital Accessibility and Inclusive Design

  • Develop and maintain digital accessibility best practice training and documentation to expand adoption across the learning technology team.
  • Reporting on quantifiable improvements to accessibility and inclusion to support both learning and technology teams.
  • Working with learning design and production teams, translating UX / UI research findings into comprehensible, actionable and implementable outputs.
  • Communicate effectively to appropriate people in other teams. Ensuring proactive communication and forward planning as far as reasonable with the objective of stability across projects.
  • Use a range of automated and manual testing capabilities and platform analytics to identify accessibility and inclusion issues. 
  • Propose and implement solutions to address found issues and improve digital accessibility and inclusion. 
  • Assess new technologies under consideration for accessibility compliance, build and development efficiencies and enhancements (e.g. use of AI tools like Chat-GPT).

Custom Platform Code Documentation

  • Custom code documentation management with tools such as Github, etc.
  • Provide document generation, storage, and document revision management for all platform custom development and system documentation.
  • Recommend improvements to the documentation process, including identifying best practices.
  • Establish documentation templates.
  • Perform other documentation support functions as required.

Core LT Support

  • Collaborate with PMs on project management, timelines, budget, scope, and quality expectations.
  • Keep up-to-date with relevant industry standards, innovations and share learnings with the wider team. 
  • Define best practices for the platform use cases.
  • Troubleshoot, consult and build/fix where required.

Platform Agnostic & General technical Support

  • Provide consultative support as a specialist on multiple platforms.
  • Supports relationships with platform vendors and Construct. 
  • Explore platform customisation and possible enhancements.
  • Consult with the relevant team members (eg. LS/LDs/PMs/Production/clients) on the best use of the platform.
  • Validates SOW scope and Toolkit alignment to platform and LT capabilities.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships as the primary client liaison.
  • Present and champion EdTech best practices and innovation concepts to internal staff and clients.

Requirements

  • Minimum undergraduate degree. Preferably EdTech / Comp Sci / IS  related. (Postgraduate qualification preferred)
  • 2+ years of exceptional technical knowledge of both front-end and back-end Web development, Content Management Systems (CMS) and Learning Management Systems (LMS)
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills and an ability to work to deadlines. 
  • Experience leading a team and development projects.
  • Ability to nurture, coach and develop technical and non-technical individuals.
  • Exceptional communication skills, and a proven ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues and clients, both in-person and while working remotely with teams based in other parts of the world. 
  • An ability to communicate confidently, clearly and effectively, both in written and verbal form.
  • Excellent attention to detail.

It would be beneficial to have:

  • Experience with Canvas LMS.
    • Ability to set up theme configurations.
    • Ability to work with Canvas Admin tools.
    • Experience working with Cidilabs
  • Basic experience and understanding of AI/GenAI technologies - this includes, but is not limited to:
    • Creating custom GPTs
    • Prompt engineering
    • Using Ai/GenAI to drive efficiencies within the core LT functions and processes
  • Experience setting up and integrating Lab or IDE environments independently or within an LMS.
