Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Department Director, assists business partners with implementing and utilizing decision support and business intelligence (BI) software solutions to transform data into information in order to achieve clinical and business goals/objectives. This includes: (1) collaborating with functional users and other internal and external resources to gather data requirements to design, develop, enhance and support BI/Reporting applications (2) assisting with implementation of BI / Decision Support technologies and tools including system selection / evaluation, analysis / design, development / implementation, and ongoing support / maintenance (3) providing data reporting, extracting, management and actionable analytics solutions to assist with problem solving, decision making and strategic planning (4) promoting/ensuring system data integrity by applying technical knowledge to resolve system issues as well as identify enhancements to improve data quality, security and operational efficiencies. Maintains/promotes excellent communications and interpersonal relationships, serving as liaison between business units and IS assisting with report/data generation, visualization, analysis, interpretation and user training as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Information Technology, Statistics, Business or Health Care Administration, or a Related Field
Minimum Years of Experience: 3 Years of Programming, Data Analytics or Dashboard Development Experience;
3 Years of experience in Requirements Gathering, Data Analysis, Data Modeling, or Report/Dashboard Design/Development (may be included in above).
Substitutable Education & Experience (Optional): In lieu of a Bachelor's Degree and the above experience, will consider those with the following combinations:
An Associate's Degree in a related field plus 5 Years of Programming, Data Analytics or Dashboard Development Experience which includes at least 3 Years of Experience in Requirements Gathering, Data Analysis, Data Modeling, or Report/Dashboard Design/Development;
A Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration or related field plus 2 Years of Programming, Data Analytics or Dashboard Development Experience which includes at least 1 year of Experience in Requirements Gathering, Data Analysis, Data Modeling, or Report/Dashboard Design/Development.
Required Certifications/Licensure: Must be willing to obtain vendor EHR and/or other technical certifications as required by department leadership.
Required Training: Proficiency in using BI technologies/tools and Microsoft SQL reporting services or similar languages to develop BI solutions including data extracts, queries, reports, dashboards, and scorecards to meet end user requirements regarding access to system information;
Proven experience with relational database structures principles and practices including data modeling, quality assurance and governance;
Excellent verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal communication skills, experience working with directly with key operational personnel with ability to serve as an effective change agent/advocate;
Advanced analytical and problem solving skills with ability to evaluate problems, identify and implement creative, innovative and effective solutions;
Excellent organizational skills with ability to coordinate concurrent projects and handle multiple priorities, ambiguity, continuous change and high-pressure situations. Attention to detail with the ability to produce accurate and high-quality work;
Proficiency in PC productivity tools such as Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Project, Access, PowerPoint, etc.);
Experience and desire to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. Able to establish effective interpersonal relationships.
Essential Functions
- Develops analytical and operational reports to assist clinical and business unit leaders with strategic, financial, and operational decision making processes. Demonstrates proficiency in use of BI system application tools. Creates and carries out deployment tasks, business workflow interpretation, and participates in application build, testing and support. Writes queries and stored procedures, builds tables and optimizes database operations.
- Participates in development meetings, interviews, reviews and design sessions and collaborates across service lines, functions and levels of organization to determine requirements for reports, extracts, data analyses, metadata, data governance, data quality and performance.
- Provides business units / departments with the tools, technology, and applications to access clinical, financial, and administrative information on a timely basis.
- Designs, develops, tests, documents and implements templates, filters, reports, dashboards, and/or scorecards and extracts to leverage data environment to meet business unit needs.
- Participates in data modeling, metadata development, and data security administration activities including identification/maintenance/documentation of usage standards and data element, calculation, metric and statistical definitions.
- Assist with audits and data validation activities to promote and insure data accuracy and quality.
- Consistently promotes data quality and governance to help ensure integrity of revenue, clinical, budget, operational, forecast and other key enterprise information assets. Logs change requests and issues related to dashboard/report enhancements and modifications.
- Assist with business unit analysis, information requirements definitions, source data identification, data quality definitions, data extraction, transformation, load/import (ETL) and summarization processing.
- Serves as liaison with IS team members to translate data requirements into technical specifications, help identify and assess potential data sources and establish procedures to insure data quality including validation of ETL processing.
- Collaborates with IS and DBAs to administer computerized databases including design, backup recovery, monitoring, reorganization, and development of database standards to achieve optimal performance.
- Troubleshoots and triages problems identified within BI and related source applications, developing SQL scripts to respond to data issues and communicating with vendors and IS technology resources to resolve system/platform issues or limitations. Can identify defects in logic or code and resolve issues efficiently.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provides support for performance improvement initiatives by resolving data retrieval issues and identifying opportunities to more efficiently extract, manipulate, analyze, report and disseminate system data.
- Serves as process change advocate; research and challenge existing processes, assist with development of process change recommendations based upon pertinent data analysis in order to help improve functional workflows.
- Develops and maintains related system documentation to support new implementations, software upgrades, program modifications and customizations including configuration manuals, data definitions, in-house diagrams and process flow charts according to department standards.
- Participates in short, medium and long range system planning including evaluating new applications implemented within the organization with respect to determining the impact to business intelligence data sources.
- Assists with system selections/acquisition of BI and Decision Support applications, programs and tools, including participating in initial system design and configuration, as well as providing testing, implementation and training support as needed.
- Participates in project management tasks, support team goals, objectives and timelines as required working with a sense of urgency and accuracy to ensure effective implementation as well as initiate/maintain project resources, plan documentation and coordinate communication updates as necessary.
- Utilizes technical and programming expertise to strengthen the knowledge and skills of related team members.
- 19.Attends continuing education courses, seminars and conferences to keep abreast of BI and Decision Support technology developments

- Department Specific Duties are as follows:
- The Developer in the Data Analytics and BI department is proficient working with technology/languages such as SQL, Python, Visual Basic, HTML with Oracle/SQL database experience as well as has proven experience with business intelligence systems such as SAP/Crystal/WebI, Epic Analytics, PowerBI, Tableau, Qlik, and TIBCO Spotfire to provide optimal analytics solutions to meet clinical and business unit's operational information needs.
- The Developer in the Decision Support department is proficient working in business intelligence systems, such as Tableau, Qlik, TIBCO Spotfire, Power BI, etc., and demonstrated proficiency with SQL Reporting Services like MS SQL. Focused on building and supporting analytic dashboards and reports to meet internal and external analytic needs. Documents and maintains dashboard and report solutions.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by authorized personnel or as required in an emergency, e.g., fire or disaster.
