The British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is currently seeking an Analytics Engineering (Investment Strategy & Risk) Co-op Student/Intern for the Winter and Summer (January to August 2025) work terms to support the Corporate Data & Operations team. WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH

The Corporate Data & Operations department delivers centralized, corporate business services across BCI departments. This role will work in a team focusing on Investment Strategy and Risk and aims to deliver analytics solutions (e.g. reports and dashboards), curated re-usable datasets and data platforms that support vital Risk Management and Strategic Asset Allocation activities.


WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Supporting the implementation of Data & Analytics projects and initiatives, focusing on the Investment Strategy and Risk domain.

  • Creating reports and dashboards using Power BI and SQL

  • Creating re-usable curated datasets tailored to business needs, using SQL

  • Work with Data & Analytics team to drive data literacy across BCI 

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Self-starter with a keen interest in using data & technology to meet business challenges

  • Demonstrates they are a team player, but can also work independently

  • Demonstrates an extremely strong work ethic and initiative to deliver value beyond the job description  

  • Comes up with creative ideas to improve the business reporting process

  • Has a firm grounding in SQL (writing and understanding)

  • Familiar with reporting tools such as Power BI

  • Familiarity with Finance & Asset Management concepts is a plus

  • Competitive pay: Mid / Back Office: $2,260.00 gross bi-weekly or $2,090.00 gross bi-weekly + vacation leave paid based on 6% of salary ($2,260.00 gross biweekly for those with (or working towards) a graduate degree or joining the Investment Strategy & Risk department and $2,090.00 gross biweekly for those with (or working towards) an undergraduate degree, diploma, or certificate)

  • Office Location: 750 Pandora Avenue, Victoria, BC

  • Spend your off hours exploring beautiful Victoria and Vancouver Island

  • Travel: if coming to Victoria for this work term, BCI will provide a fixed-rate travel allowance based on your location

  • All co-ops/internships will need to be completed in person at our Victoria office with the option to work one day per week from home. Please note, some positions are not eligible for hybrid work.
