As a Senior Data Engineer, you will have a pivotal role within IT and be a key partner across the Charterhouse group, working alongside various stakeholders across all business lines. As part of a collaborative team and under supervision of the Head of Applications, this role will design, build and optimise data products & operations as well as support data initiatives to ensure optimal delivery that is consistent throughout ongoing projects.

You will be responsible for designing, developing and maintaining high-performance, resilient & scalable data pipelines & platforms to provide the business with cleansed and usable datasets to meet growing requirements. You will partner with business stakeholders and technical teams to gain a deep understanding of data related processes, core systems, data retrieval and to ensure excellent data integrity and data quality so that it can be relied upon across the company.

You must be self-directed and comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems and use cases. You will have the ability to blend applied knowledge of technologies, applications, methodologies, processes and tools with innovative strategic thinking to support a variety of business programmes including the delivery of core metrics/dashboards.

Our focus encompasses connection and collaboration, which is why we encourage a hybrid approach to work, with the choice to be based in one of our offices in London or Liverpool and at home. This role is a 12 month FTC.

Requirements

  • Design, develop, manage and scale data pipelines & data integrations from internal and external data sources to support new data products and initiatives.
  • Design and build data models in Snowflake, SQL Server and other Azure Data Services, using appropriate methodologies (e.g., star schema, data lake or data vault).
  • Building and maintaining data cubes.
  • Consultatively engage with stakeholders across the organisation to identify business requirements, develop new approaches and build data solutions at scale.
  • Build required tables and transform data to load into a business intelligence tool such as PowerBI.
  • Ensure high data quality and integrity across multiple data sources and automate data validation & reconciliation as required.
  • Create and maintain catalogs of data, tools and data products that can be used by the business to perform data discovery and analytics.
  • Fuse data from multiple sources (internal and external) to provide high-value and actionable insights, including the creation of key business performance metrics in PowerBI.
  • Build required tables and transform data to load into a business intelligence tool such as PowerBI.
  • Working with the application team to develop and maintain the databases and reporting needs across Charterhouse.
  • Working closely with the Head of Applications to develop and maintain a strategic roadmap for data governance.
  • Service ad-hoc data requests to support internal needs and provide data extracts or dashboards as required.
  • Responsible for adopting and supporting the definition of best practice around systems integration, security, performance, and data management.
  • Create documentation for visibility, upskilling and knowledge transfer.

Skills / experience and attitude

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Maths, Data Science, a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Proven track record of designing and delivering large scale, high quality operational or analytical data products.
  • Proven experience in Data modelling, advanced SQL and other Data Architecture techniques.
  • Experience of hands-on data engineering development and end-to-end design patterns.
  • Experience designing and implementing ingestion processes for unstructured and structured data sets.
  • Experience using SQL Server, Snowflake and the Microsoft data pipeline tools ADF, Databricks , Python or similar
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to effectively connect business requirements to data engineering objectives.

 

Desirable

  • In-depth knowledge of data warehousing, data architecture, data quality processes, data warehousing design and implementation, table structure, fact and dimension tables, logical and physical database design.
  • Knowledge of data, master data, metadata related standards, and processes.
  • Experience with data storage and processing technologies such as SQL, NoSQL, and columnar databases.
  • Experience using Azure DevOps/Github actions CI/CD pipelines to deploy code.
  • Experience with DevOps process and an understanding of Terraform scripting.
