Position Summary:

Reporting to the Manager, IT Applications, the Power BI Specialist will be responsible for transforming raw data into insightful visual representations that drive informed decision-making within the organization. This professional is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining Power BI dashboards and reports to provide actionable insights and facilitate data-driven strategies.

Your Day to Day:

Data Visualization Development:

  • Collaborate with various departments to understand data requirements.
  • Design, develop, and maintain Power BI reports and dashboards that effectively communicate data insights to stakeholders, including executives, department leaders, and front-line staff.
  • Create interactive and user-friendly data visualizations, including charts, graphs, maps, and custom visuals.

Data Modeling and Transformation:

  • Transform and clean data using Power Query in Power BI to ensure data accuracy and consistency.
  • Build data models that support efficient report creation and analysis.
  • Define data relationships, hierarchies, and calculations to support complex reporting needs.

Data Integration:

  • Integrate data from multiple sources into Power BI, ensuring data accuracy and completeness.
  • Automate data refresh schedules to keep reports up to date.

Performance Optimization:

  • Monitor and optimize the performance of Power BI reports to ensure fast and responsive user experiences.
  • Identify and address any data processing bottlenecks or issues.

User Training and Support:

  • Provide training and support to end-users to enable them to navigate and interact with Power BI reports effectively.
  • Address user inquiries and troubleshoot any issues related to data visualization.
  • Manage active users on Power BI to ensure appropriate level of access is granted and maintained.

Security and Compliance:

  • Implement data security measures within Power BI to protect sensitive information.
  • Ensure compliance with data governance and privacy regulations.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers and business stakeholders, to align data visualization efforts with organizational objectives.
  • Collaborate with teams within IT to ensure Power BI integrates seamlessly with other systems and tools.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as Computer Science, Data Science, or Business.
  • 5 years of proven experience with Power BI, including data modeling, DAX, and Power Query.
  • Strong data visualization skills and an understanding of data storytelling.
  • Proficiency in SQL for data retrieval and transformation.
  • Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and ETL processes.
  • Familiarity with data integration and data pipeline tools.

Work Location:

This is a hybrid position with the requirement to work from our downtown Toronto office for a minimum of two days per week (currently Tuesday and Thursday).
