You will be a member of the Workforce Reporting and Analytics (WRA) team in PSC which supports the PSC and client departments with human capital Management (HCM) reporting and analytics services to make evidence-based decisions and to align the workforce with business priorities.  
 
Through provision of a full spectrum of data services (operational to strategic discussions), the team is responsible for partnering within the PSC and client ministries to understand business drivers and transform information into knowledge, leading to actionable insights.  This work is critical to the strategic decision-making capacity of the Alberta Public Service, and it interfaces with every Department.

Role Responsibilities

Within the Workforce Reporting and Analytics (WRA) unit lies the HCM Operational Reporting team. Our team provides HCM reporting and analytic services to assist our clients with evidence-based decision making.  With the needs of our clients evolving, we find ourselves requiring a more diverse skill set on our team. We need a versatile and well-rounded individual to help us help our clients.

Your experience with data extraction tools to retrieve data from our ERP is a definite must have and is crucial to the success of our team.  Your use of data visualization tools and other relevant HCM data products will help paint a more relatable and robust picture for your clients.  Melding together both of those abilities is foundational to success in this role. As a subject matter expert, proficiency in these areas is key as it will enable you to build and maintain customized query solutions for our team and also enable you to relate a story to the client in a meaningful and relevant manner. You will also use your knowledge and skills to lead project teams to collaborate with stakeholders to address their business problems. 

As part of a creative, fast-paced, and highly collaborative environment, you will:

  • Apply your business acumen and technical skills to independently build, update, and maintain customized 1GX query solutions in SAP Query Manager and SuccessFactors Report Center.
  • Identify data issues and independently work with appropriate functional areas to make recommendations and come to a resolution, including resolving issues and problems users are experiencing with query solutions.
  • Leverage your strong knowledge of data reporting, analysis, research, and consultation skills to address clients' HCM business challenges effectively.Compile, summarize, and analyze HCM data from different data sources (1GX, the Workforce Reporting Platform, IMAGIS) into meaningful reports that provide insight and enable evidence-based decision-making.
  • Design and present compelling narratives, including data visualizations, to communicate the implications of workforce trends and patterns to various APS audiences (Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Senior Leaders etc.), APS people leaders and external clients.
  • Apply your technical expertise to develop and automate processes, enhancing efficiency and streamlining reporting workflows.

Having an understanding of government structures, policies and procedures, as well as a working level knowledge of HR Directives, Policies and legislation will also be beneficial to you in this role.

Qualifications

Requirement:
University Degree or college diploma in Data Analytics, Statistics, Commerce, Computer Science, or a related field, plus a minimum of 2 years' experience with basic SQL, data analysis and SAP Query Manager tools, report building and extraction. Experience with SAP S/4HANA query building is preferred.

Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

 
Also required:

  • Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Excel as a data amalgamation and presentation tool.


Assets include:

  • Experience in the integration of multiple data sources.
  • Experience in development and maintenance of regular and ad-hoc data reporting via PowerBI, Excel, or other reporting tools.
  • Working level knowledge of HR operational functions, programs and processes.
  • Familiarity with database management and system architecture.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools such as PowerBI or Tableau.
  • Understanding of PeopleSoft.
  • Experience in documenting processes.
  • Working level knowledge of related legislation, regulations, regulations, directives and policies to deliver HCM reporting services to stakeholders.
  • An understanding of the principal concepts of the project management discipline.  
  • A basic understanding of modern programming languages (e.g. SQL, Python, R). 
  • Familiarity with different data extraction methods.
