TEAMThe Toyota Woven City is a fully connected ecosystem powered by hydrogen fuel cells to be built at the base of Mt. Fuji in Japan. It is envisioned as a ‘living laboratory’ and ‘ever-evolving,’ incorporating different types of the latest technologies. At the same time, it is also ‘human-centric,’ that is, it will keep people safe and comfortable.
Our team will develop innovative services that are important to the city. As a first party developer, we will also build a foundation upon which third-party partners can participate. Therefore, we are responsible for not just the applications but also the main software and capabilities.
Our team consists of many experienced members with international work experience. We aim to be open-minded as we create a new culture with members from different backgrounds and nationalities.
You will report to the lead of function and the work style is hybrid (office and remote).
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FORWe are looking for an innovative and experienced data architect to join our dynamic team and help shape the future of Woven City’s data-driven strategies. You will work with an array of data sources, including life logs, mobility data, robotics, facilities, wearable devices, home sensors, smartphones, and different applications. You will design the latest end-to-end data streams, storage solutions, data serving systems, and analytical workflows to enhance our city's analytic performance.
Your responsibilities will include creating and communicating strategies for our data platform, ensuring security, auditing, and data governance. You will also lead the planning and implementation of proof-of-concepts (PoCs) to drive innovation and efficiency.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver a reliable and scalable architecture to enhance the city's data-driven strategy, evaluate implemented solutions, and provide continuous improvement feedback. Design end-to-end data streams, storage, data serving systems, and analytical workflows.
  • Create and maintain strategies for data platforms and analytical tools. Share governance responsibilities to ensure alignment with enterprise guidelines for security, auditing, and data governance, including approving changes to data flows and metadata.
  • Define, improve, and share best practices and guidelines. Review analytic solutions for re-usability, scalability, and alignment with best practices. Support integration with other enterprise solutions.
  • Create and evolve the big-data and analytic technology roadmap to meet business needs. Select and implement tools for data management, and document findings for improvements. Monitor technology trends and benchmark against industry standards.
  • Lead education and training initiatives for the analytics community. Collaborate with partners across teams to resolve issues and improve practices, ensuring effective communication and problem-solving.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or other related technical disciplines 
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in designing and developing complex, high-quality big-data platforms serving analytical solutions, including Big-Data Architecture role designing technology architectures, detailed workflows, best practices, and governance guidelines
  • Experience in designing conceptual, logical, and physical data models involving structured and semi-structured data (Avro, JSON, ProtoBuf)
  • Hands-on experience working with  analytical technologies like R/Python and/or BI tools like Tableau/Power BI; Cloud analytics platform experience preferred. 
  • Proficiency in business level English and good communication skills and experience in cross-functional teams.

NICE TO HAVES:

  • Experience in delivering scalable, resource-intensive, integrated, and operational big-data and analytical solutions, including creating points of view, roadmaps, and process diagrams.
  • Strong familiarity with business and technical big data, including metadata-related issues and processes, as well as DataLake/DataLakeHouse architectures such as Kappa or Delta.
  • Hands-on experience with open-source big-data and data-lake technologies like Spark, Flink, Kafka, and SQL/NoSQL databases, including key-value, columnar, and graph databases, as well as ESB.
  • Knowledge of table formats (Parquet, Avro, Arrow) and best practices for partitioning and sharding.
  • Experience in Agile Software Development with a solid understanding of Agile principles, practices, and Scrum methodologies.
  • Proficiency in Japanese sufficient to interpret and handle Japanese data.
