Job Duties and Qualifications

Senior/Principal Scientist – Acoustics in the Sensor Physics Group

Halliburton invites qualified candidates to apply for an R&D Scientist role in the Acoustics Team in the Sensor Physics Group in Houston. Our goal is to continuously grow our core expertise in the areas of sensor physics, modeling, signal processing, inversion, and AI-assisted data analytics to maximize the values of downhole sensor data and to ensure the long-term success of Halliburton.

 

Responsibilities

Conduct research and development on acoustic logging tools for formation evaluation, well integrity evaluation, and reservoir monitoring
Develop acoustic array processing algorithms
Develop software applications/packages for acoustic signal processing and borehole acoustic simulations, including related multi-physics modeling
Develop AI/machine learning applications and products on acoustic downhole logs
Collaborate with colleagues within and outside the team for technology transfer and operational support
Publish patent applications and papers for technical journals conferences


Required Education and Skills

A Ph.D. (or equivalent qualification) in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Geophysics, or related technical background preferred
4+ years of experience as an academic or industrial technical contributor with established track record of successfully solving highly complex technical problems
Demonstrated experience or knowledge in acoustics or geophysical signal analysis and processing
Experience with wireline logging data (acoustic, nuclear, resistivity, image logs) and subsurface formation interpretation
Familiarity with data analysis tools/software such as Petrel, Techlog, TensorFlow, Keras, Jupyter
Prior experience on R&D of acoustic surveying/downhole logging tools and technology is highly desirable
Proficiency in Machine Learning Algorithms (e.g., supervised/unsupervised learning, neural networks)
Proficiency in languages such as Python, R, MATLAB, C/C++
Demonstrated skills in data modeling and statistical analysis
Experience in handling large datasets (especially geological/petrophysical data)
Experience in cloud computing (e.g., AWS, Google cloud for machine learning skills)
Experience in high-performance computing (CPU and GPU parallelization) is a plus
Demonstrated ability to generate and develop creative/innovative ideas
Demonstrated strong teamwork ethics, communication skills, and collaboration in complex projects
