About this Role

We are seeking a motivated, results-oriented college student to join our MBD (s) team for the summer of 2024. The Carrier internship experience offers interns an environment that provides practical, challenging, and meaningful on-the-job work (i.e., thermal system modeling and simulation) experience and the opportunity to apply knowledge and demonstrate strengths in efforts to assist Carrier in achieving its business strategy. 

Key Responsibilities

As a Model-based Design (MBD) Project Support Intern, you will gain experience including, but not limited to, activities and tasks listed below:

  • Collaborate with MBD and cooling engineers to develop one-dimensional AC or HP system models representative of residential cooling products.
  • Develop specific physics-based thermo-fluid dynamic system models of HVAC components and systems that are both efficient and robust.
  • Assess and validate the steady-state thermal system models.
  • Perform steady-state/dynamic model validations.
  • Collaborate with MBD, control, and test engineers to collect test data for calibrating and validating dynamic models.
  • Develop scripts to process experimental data and modeling results.
  • Determine the values of the key parameters, resulting in a good match between modeling predictions and associated test data.
  • Automate data processing and comparison between test and model results
  • Support data/signal analysis & statistics for the residential digital twin.
  • Inform stakeholders of MBD system analysis and results.
  • Present analysis and recommendations

Required Qualifications 

  • Pursuing Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Systems Engineering and Electrical Engineering
  • 3.0 or higher GPA  
  • Must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Proficiency in at least one scripting language, e.g., MATLAB or Python
  • Basic understanding of Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Self-driven and proactive
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Team player and willing to collaborate with others on projects
