About The Role:

As an Energy Management Systems MBD Engineer, you will work with global, cross disciplinary teams to develop/apply model-based development & verification tools/methods to: (i) create the next generation of integrated energy systems incorporating HVAC, energy storage and renewable energy for residential and commercial buildings and (ii) develop smart connected energy management algorithms, software solutions and optimized systems. The company will rely on you to expand the application of MBD in the integrated energy systems space, develop innovative processes, workflows / tools leveraging internal & external ecosystems and experts to increase the engineering effectiveness. 

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead projects / teams for model-based development & analysis of integrated energy systems and energy management algorithms with emphasis on techno-economic tradeoffs
  • Lead and execute MBD deployment plan for product applications with business units (Residential and Commercial HVAC).
  • Productionize Integrated Energy Systems and Energy Management Systems MBD toolsets. Document MBD workflows, standard work and provide training.
  • Support the business unit in integrated energy systems MBD applications; identify and propose new system and energy management concepts that enhance techno-economic metrics
  • Setup partnerships and collaborations with universities, tool vendors and relevant standard committees to align the evolution of MBD technologies with Carrier needs.

Required Qualifications:

  • MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Building Energy Systems
  • 8+ years of engineering analysis experience for energy management systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities in technical leadership & technology project management
  • Experience with modeling and analysis of integrated energy systems for residential or commercial buildings including HVAC, thermal and/or electrical energy storage, solar photo voltaic, solar thermal and power electronic converter and grid interactive technologies
  • Experience with modeling, analysis of residential buildings at different levels of detail for energy performance and energy efficiency improvement measures
  • Experience in developing and demonstrating smart home energy management features such as demand response, load shifting to support the grid and take advantage of variable electricity tariffs
  • Experience in advanced model based control concepts such as model predictive control with physical, semi-empirical or machine learning based models preferably in the context of home or building energy management systems   
  • Techno-economic viability analysis for electrification concepts, advanced home energy systems and energy management algorithms
  • Proficiency in use of established building energy analysis tools (EnergyPlus, OpenStudio, BEopt etc) or general purpose tools (Python, MATLAB/Simulink, Dymola/Modelica etc.) for building energy analysis, energy management controls development use cases
  • Project management capabilities with proven deliverable of quality products to customer
  • Desire to innovate, good communication skills and demonstrated thought leadership.
  • Experience with Agile development and delivering value to customers quickly.
