Founded in 2006, One Acre Fund supplies 1 million smallholder farmers with the agricultural services they need to make their farms vastly more productive. Our 8,000+ team is drawn from diverse backgrounds and professions. With operations across six core countries in Africa, we make farmers more prosperous by providing quality farm supplies on credit, delivered within walking distance of farmers’ homes, and agricultural training to improve harvests. On average, the farmers we serve harvest 50 percent more food after working with One Acre Fund.

About the Role

The Data Quality Specialist at Scale Innovations ensures high-quality data by establishing and enforcing data quality protocols, maintaining research standards, and upholding data ethics, thereby supporting informed decision-making and enhancing innovative solutions for farmers. You will report to the data senior specialist.

Responsibilities

  • Data Quality management
    • Manage existing data quality  protocols and build new protocols
    • Oversee the work of the data quality supervisor 
    • Monitor the quality performance indicators and tracking tools
    • Lead the back-check and  field investigation around fraud and falsification 
    • Support in enforcing data ethics
  • Survey design:
    • Point-person in office for technical assistance on digital data collection platforms such Commcare and Kobo tool
    • Use statistical tools such R/STATA/Python/MySQL to keep track of the scripts and processes
    • Conduct regular data cleaning activities for all the datasets and keep data in ready-for analysis formats
    • Support in qualitative research
  • Support in data analysis: 
    • Run descriptive analysis and write survey reports
    • Develop business-performance dashboards 
    • Support in findings dissemination through presentations in different work groups and email correspondence
    • Analyze geospatial data
  • Capacity building:
    • Training research staff regarding Scale Innovation’s data quality protocols and policies.
    • Design and conducts training modules to help staff develop their technical skills. This includes training in data techniques and statistical software

Qualifications

Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for. For this role specifically, you will have:

  • Background in Agricultural Economics, Statistics, mathematics, economics, agricultural statistics and related fields, with 1-2 years’ experience in data management
  • Passionate with data manipulation 
  • Comfortable with logical relationships and operators
  • Intermediate level of MS excel (can perform complex functions) 
  • Knowledge of at least another statistical  tool such STATA, R, Python, and SQL
  • Kinyarwanda speaker with a good level of English
  • Comfortable  working in a group 
  • People management skills
