About the Team

The Data Science team at Miro has a mission: using AI to transform Miro into a collaboration platform so intelligent that it can be considered as an additional team member! We work with Recommender Systems, Search & ranking, NLP, Computer Vision, and Graphs to give Miro the means to truly understand what its users want and need to do, and support them in the process of creating the next big thing. The Personalization team is specifically focused on the goal to recognize and understand user intent, and make the experience of using Miro productive and enjoyable by seamlessly surfacing relevant tools helping with content development, sharing with the right people, and communicating the most important highlights. We measure our success through our users ability to go smoothly from a blank board to amazing brainstorms, designs, presentations and prototypes that empower users.

About the Role

As a data scientist at Miro, you will take ownership of and be the driving force behind projects aimed towards bringing Miro’s new intelligent capabilities to our end users. That means working with the business to understand and translate business problems, and identifying (or building yourself) the data sources that address such a problem. You will train Classification, Search, Ranking, Recommendation models, and use your creativity to augment those models with powerful techniques to set us ahead of the competition. And finally, you’ll coordinate with platform engineers to deliver production-ready models that will reach millions of users and teams collaborating all over the world to be able to see the impact of your work in real.

  • Drive individual projects to completion to bring ML benefits to Miro as a product through personalization
  • Obtain and process data to elicit key user patterns and drivers for a chosen business problem
  • Build predictive models for intelligent recognition, recommendation, search and ranking either from scratch or fine tuning innovative open source models
  • Stay abreast of industry standards in the growing field of AI for personalization and share your knowledge with other teammates in a peer learning environment
  • Work closely with other specialists to bring value to the end user by shipping models in production and maintaining their quality over time

What you’ll need

  • A Master’s degree in a quantitative subject area like engineering, statistics, mathematics, or econometrics
  • At least 3 years (or PhD + 1 year) in design and implementation of machine learning models in a business context, preferably as part of user facing software products
  • Familiarity working in a team setting with diverse skills (eg, with engineers in other roles) and business partners (eg, product managers)
  • Ability to work with large datasets with a python data science tech stack. Familiar with data munging, visualization, statistical modeling packages, PySpark, git, workflow management (cronjobs, oozie, kedro, or airflow) on a cloud based environment (AWS, GCloud, MS Azure, or Databricks)
  • Deep understanding of foundational Machine Learning algorithms, with specialized knowledge of and experience with Natural Language Processing OR Search and Ranking algorithms
  • Familiarity with design and analysis of AB tests to prove market value
  • Strong communication skills to be able to exchange ideas, brainstorm, remove obstacles and keep collaborators updated - written and verbal
  • Ability to reason about priorities and make practical tradeoffs between quality and velocity so that users can experience the Miro awesomeness sooner
  • Keeping the team grounded with a keen eye towards customers by championing their needs throughout the engineering lifecycle
