Position will support clinical data abstraction and entry into two national databases - Children’s Hospital Neonatal Consortium (CHNC) and Vermont Oxford Network (VON), and Mayo Clinic’s Teleneonatology Program.

Coordinates accurate data abstraction, data entry and reporting for assigned national databases. Utilizes software applications to collect and summarize data elements from the electronic medical record and produce a variety of reports for research, quality improvement and departmental planning. Plans and conducts complex data collection, including development of data validation and automation tools. Understands the impact of accurate reporting to CMS, TJC and other regulatory entities, and regularly validates data quality. Complies with all federal, state, IRB and institutional guidelines related to such.

Requires baccalaureate degree in Healthcare Administration, Information Systems or related healthcare field, Registered Health Information Technology certification (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) registration. Minimum of 5 years healthcare experience with a strong emphasis on anatomy, physiology and medical terminology. Good understanding of data abstraction and data entry experience is required. Knowledge of ICD and CPT coding highly preferred. Ability to interpret the patient medical record is essential. Requires proficiency in use of personal computers, including Microsoft Office and web applications. Must possess critical thinking, communication, and organizational skills, and the ability to effectively interact with multidisciplinary teams. Displays knowledge of quality improvement methodologies. Demonstrated ability to work with limited oversight and keep activities on schedule. Ability to occasionally travel for meetings, training and conferences needed. Must be willing to obtain certification if required. Basic knowledge of statistical methodologies and software helpful. RHIT or RHIA certification. Must obtain abstractor certification within one year of employment for ACS supported databases.

Work will primarily be performed remotely but at times will require incumbent to be on site. Therefore, must live within a reasonable driving distance of Rochester campus.
