At Secureworks, we are enhancing our cutting-edge real-time detection platform that empower our clients to harness the full potential of their data. The Threat Detection team, part of the Product-Engineering Detection Platform, focuses on advanced detection engines. Our team is dedicated to innovation, excellence and developing scalable, real-time solutions using Apache Flink. We are looking for a passionate and driven Data Engineering Intern to join our dynamic team and contribute to our mission of delivering data driven products.

As a Data Engineering Intern, you will work closely with our experienced data engineers to enhance our advanced detection engines, such as Tactic Graphs™. You will gain hands-on experience with our streaming big data platform using Apache Flink, Kafka & Kubernetes, contributing to the design, development, and optimization of our streaming data processing pipelines. This internship is an excellent opportunity to immerse yourself in a fast-paced, tech-driven environment where you can apply your skills and learn from industry experts.

Skills and Requirements

Key responsibilities:
 

  • Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code in Java.

  • Participate in code reviews and adhere to best practices in software development.

  • Engage in the full software development lifecycle, from concept to deployment and support.

  • Work with large, complex data sets to solve challenging problems.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate data engineering solutions with other parts of the business.

Qualifications (we expect to see):

  • 1 Year of software engineering education/STEM/bootcamp experience.

  • Software engineering experience in Java.

  • Version control experience such as Git.

  • A desire to learn and dive into new programming languages and technologies.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work in a collaborative agile team environment.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Eagerness to learn and take on new challenges in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications (what we like to see (but not required)):

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.

  • Experience working with docker or kubernetes

  • Experience developing and deploying production systems with cloud platforms like AWS or GCP

  • Remote work experience with a geographically distributed team (we have teammates in EST to EET time zones)

Work Environment

We are a remote first team and are geographically distributed across the UK, Spain, and Romania - we utilize tools like Slack, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams to facilitate communication and tools like Miro and Lucid Charts for diagramming and communicating ideas. We also believe in a strong work-life balance and providing support for team members to accomplish that.
