Background

The Mission Support System (MSS) for the Gripen fighter aircraft is used for planning and evaluation of aircraft missions. As the system is used by the aircraft pilots, reliability and usability are important characteristics. Implementation of new functions is based on design concepts, including images of the user interface. AI models such as ChatGPT from Open AI or Gemini from Google are now presented as capable of writing complex software based on a textual prompt, but how can AI models be integrated in the development of a large-scale application with a complex and demanding user interface?

Description of the master thesis

This MSc thesis aims at evaluating and demonstrating how generative AI can be used to produce high-quality source code for a UX application, based on designed concepts including images, parameters and/or textual descriptions. The study shall include a study of related previous work, interviews with senior engineers in software development at Saab Aeronautics, and evaluation using one or several existing AI/ML-based frameworks.

Your profile

This Master Thesis is suitable for one or two students, with interest in software development and software testing. You are at the end of your Master of Science in e.g. Computer Science and Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Management, or Information Technology and about to start your Master Thesis work for 30 HP.

This position requires that you pass a security vetting based on the current regulations around/of security protection. For positions requiring security clearance additional obligations on citizenship may apply.
