AWS DevOps Engineer

Programme Name: LCST

The Role:

We are in search of an AWS DevOps Engineer to join the team.

As part of an Agile Team, this role designs, develops, and maintains cloud infrastructure using a tailored SAFe Agile SecDevOps Scrum process. This role uses best practices and patterns to perform design, development using AWS Services and Infrastructure as Code.  

You will also be expected to perform automated testing and unit testing, while performing automated deployments of software modules using a Continuous Integration Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) tools pipeline. Duties also include participating in daily scrums, performing software requirements analysis, risk identification, risk mitigation, and collaboration across Agile teams. Flexible cross-training to also provide systems engineering, software development, training, security, and testing is also desired.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Version Control Management: Use GIT to manage version control, including creating, managing, and merging pull requests (PRs).
  • Automation of Server Configurations: Automate server configurations for security, including logging, key management, and system hardening, using tools like Ansible and Terraform.
  • AWS and Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Design, develop, and manage cloud infrastructure using AWS services and IaC tools like Terraform, with knowledge of Packer and CloudFormation.
  • Scripting and Automation: Utilize Bash, Python, PowerShell, Go, and JavaScript for scripting and automating workflows, increasing efficiency, and reducing manual tasks.
  • Containerization and Configuration Management: Deploy and manage containers with Docker, and use Ansible for configuration management in cloud environments.
  • CI/CD Pipeline Development: Design, develop, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins to automate software testing, building, and deployment.
  • Secrets Management: Manage sensitive information securely using Vault for secrets management.
  • Collaboration in Agile Teams: Work within Agile teams to translate user stories into technical deliverables, while communicating effectively with team members and stakeholders.
  • Software Deployment: Perform software deployment across multiple environments, using Trunk-based development or GitFlow strategies.
  • AWS Cloud Infrastructure Management: Manage AWS cloud infrastructure, including VPCs, DNS, Load Balancing, and other related services.
  • Security Best Practices: Implement AWS security best practices to maintain a secure and compliant cloud environment.
  • Monitoring and Logging: Set up and manage monitoring and logging systems within AWS to ensure stability, performance, and operational visibility.
  • Fast-Paced Delivery: Adapt to a fast-paced, results-driven environment, ensuring key milestones and project deadlines are met.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously look for ways to improve existing delivery standards and workflows.
  • CI/CD Best Practices: Implement CI/CD automation best practices, with a strong focus on tools like Jenkins.
  • Problem Solving and Risk Mitigation: Apply strong problem-solving skills to identify and mitigate risks, focusing on DevOps best practices.
  • Cloud Networking and Infrastructure: Understand and manage AWS networking concepts, ensuring the infrastructure is secure, scalable, and optimized.

What does Leidos need from me:  

  • Version Control Expertise: Strong experience with GIT, including proficiency in managing and merging pull requests (PRs) within collaborative development environments.
  • Automation Skills: Ability to automate server configurations with a focus on security using tools like Ansible and Terraform, including key management, logging, and system hardening.
  • AWS Knowledge: Solid understanding and hands-on experience with AWS services and Infrastructure as Code (IaC), specifically using Terraform. Familiarity with related tools like Packer and CloudFormation is highly beneficial.
  • Scripting Proficiency: Proven ability to use scripting languages such as Bash, Python, PowerShell, Go, and JavaScript to automate processes, optimize workflows, and increase operational efficiency.
  • Containerization and Configuration Management: Experience with Docker for managing containerized applications and Ansible for automating configuration management tasks.
  • CI/CD Pipeline Management: Demonstrated ability to design, develop, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, automating tasks such as testing, building, and deployment.
  • Secrets Management: Familiarity with Vault for managing and securing sensitive information and secrets in cloud environments.
  • Agile Collaboration: Experience working in Agile teams, translating user stories into technical tasks and deliverables. Strong communication skills to collaborate across different team functions and effectively deliver results.
  • Version Control Strategy: Knowledge of version control strategies such as Trunk-based development or GitFlow for managing software deployments across different environments.
  • AWS Cloud Infrastructure: Hands-on experience working with AWS cloud infrastructure, including VPCs, DNS, Load Balancing, and network-related AWS services.
  • Security Best Practices: Ability to apply AWS security best practices to ensure that cloud environments remain secure and compliant.
  • Monitoring and Logging: Experience implementing and managing monitoring and logging systems to ensure the performance and stability of AWS environments.
  • Adaptability and Drive: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, results-driven environment, demonstrating a proactive attitude towards meeting project milestones and delivering high-quality results.
  • Continuous Improvement: Willingness to align with existing delivery standards while also identifying and suggesting improvements to enhance processes and systems.
  • CI/CD Automation Expertise: Strong knowledge of CI/CD automation using tools like Jenkins, along with a solid understanding of best practices for continuous integration, delivery, and deployment.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on implementing DevOps best practices and effectively identifying and mitigating risks in cloud and infrastructure projects.
  • Networking and Cloud Infrastructure Understanding: Strong understanding of AWS networking concepts, cloud infrastructure, and the use of security, logging, and monitoring solutions to ensure robust and scalable cloud operations.
