Job Summary:

The BI Engineer position will be responsible for assembling, measuring and verifying data from multiple sources inside and outside of UW Athletics for the purposes of reporting to all levels of the organization. The BI Engineer will work closely with the Director of Data Management and Software Solutions for project management and strategic data planning. Working closely with data and business analysts, the BI Engineer will customize the data for useful reporting and storage from a variety of sources. The BI Engineer will maintain the Tableau server to maintain server balance, performance and maintenance.

The BI Engineer will have experience in SQL, Tableau server, Tableau desktop, Tableau Data Prep and Python to manipulate data. Practical experience working on data-intensive projects is preferred. Excellent project management skills pertaining to user requirements and coordination are required. Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate a curiosity on data procedures, investigating best solutions, exploring data with our current vendors and partners and enhancing UW Athletics' current processing procedures. The BI Engineer will have experience with Tableau server administration. As the BI Engineer grows in their position, it is expected that the chosen candidate will grow their UW Athletics related business acumen in terms of business processes and procedures. The BI Engineer requires often working with data scientists, analysts and other stakeholders, necessitating a variety of cross-functional skills and knowledge. The BI Engineer will transition Workday data into the UW Athletics data warehouse.

UW Athletics is a vibrant and dynamic environment. This position will touch on all aspects of UW Athletics' business requirements. The BI Engineer requires expertise in reporting tools (such as Crystal Reports and Tableau) to gain insights from the data that is produced. There must be exhibited experience in a strong understanding of data analysis and visualization using the tools at hand. The BI Engineer will be expected to be adept at data analysis, understanding business metrics and translating data into actionable insights resulting in verifiable reporting. Working closely with functional users across UW Athletics, there will be a shared knowledge in communicating complex data findings clearly to stakeholders, which will require strong business acumen, project management and communication skills.

Responsibilities:

Assesses, designs, implements, and maintains databases, data warehouses, and data models needed to support analysis and reporting. Provides advanced operational support and develops and facilitates training.
  • 10% Leads the design, implementation, and maintenance of appropriate data warehouses needed to support analysis and reporting
  • 5% Provides advanced operational support and maintenance
  • 15% Designs, implements, and maintains data warehouses and data models needed to support analysis and reporting
  • 10% Provides advanced operational support and issue resolution of data warehouses and associated processes
  • 10% Serves as a subject matter expert to unit and institutional leadership on data warehousing, database application programs, and automated procedures and reporting
  • 5% Identifies, develops, and facilitates training opportunities regarding data sets and programs
  • 5% Implements and tests complex data warehousing tools and data models
  • 10% Serves as a subject matter expert on data warehousing, database application programs, and automated procedures and reporting
  • 5% Leads the identification, development, and facilitation of training opportunities regarding specific data sets and programs
  • 5% Leads collaboration with other IT professionals in the development of appropriate data warehousing design guidelines and effective use of tools for building and managing data models for data warehouses
  • 10% Leads the design, development, and management of data models for data warehouses
  • 5% Assesses business requirements, coordinates detailed technical reviews of programs and data models, determines appropriate strategy, and prepares oral and/or written reports
  • 5% Leads system integration, implementation, and acceptance testing of data warehousing tools and data models

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree

Qualifications:

- Previous experience in a similar data engineer, design, or reporting role
- Experience with data analytics
- Demonstrated experience with SQL, Python, Tableau Server, Tableau Desktop and Data Prep
- Successful data project management experience working with a variety of data sources
- Tableau Certifications
- Data analysis, presentation and visualization experience
- Server management and data organization experience
- Strong communication skills required
- Ability to multi-task across the departments in the division learning all aspects of Athletic business-from Development to Sports Medicine to Ticketing and Finance.
- Ability to work well independently or in a group setting

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $79,193 ANNUAL (12 months)

Additional Information:

Conditions of Appointment: This is a 100% Academic Staff appointment. Salary will be assigned within the appropriate range, commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience. An excellent benefits package is also included.
