IMCO is looking for a highly motivated Associate to join our team!

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Investment Risk Research and Analytics, the Associate, Investment Risk Research, will work within a dynamic team and be responsible for research efforts related to the effective modelling, interpretation and execution of investment risk, as well as preparing various risk reporting and analytics in support of IMCO’s internal partners and external stakeholders. We are seeking an investment risk professional with a sound foundation of investment risk principles as well as various research techniques in support of investment strategy development.

As a Member of Our Team, You Will be Responsible For:

  • Portfolio related investment risk research and assessments on new private market transactions (private equity, infrastructure, real estate, private credit) including sector/region concentrations, idiosyncratic risk, and stress testing.

  • Back test research in support of investment target validation and policy review, testing the appropriateness of various strategy benchmarks.

  • Risk related research pertaining to new asset classes, instrument types, stress testing, credit risk, liquidity risk, and Asset and Liability Management (ALM).

  • Working with Investment teams to ensure relevance of investment risk research and modelling techniques/approaches enabling investment risk to be fully incorporated into the investment decision making process

  • Investment compliance and policy restriction limit monitoring and escalation protocol for remedial actions.

  • Participating in the development of investment risk dashboard for monitoring investment risk analytics, enabling investment risk to be fully incorporated into the investment decision making process.

  • Working with Investment Risk Support to integrate and enhance Front Office risk analytics into the reporting process.

  • Conducting risk management related research including portfolio risk disaggregation and forecasting techniques while ensuring methodologies are “portable” to any plan/client.

  • Prototyping new risk management analytics, methodologies and reporting solutions.

  • Performing reasonability checks to identify any potential data errors and providing feedback to resolve issues.

  • Supporting private market operations, testing and implementing new modeling methodologies in risk system.

  • Developing strong collaborative relationships with all stakeholders. 

What do you need to succeed?

  • Strong academic background including a minimum of an undergrad in a quantitative discipline (mathematics, statistics, quantitative finance, or equivalent).

  • 3-5 years of experience in investment risk research, analysis, and investment management. 

  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, Bloomberg and database tools. 

  • Demonstrated portfolio and risk modelling skills. 

  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, Matlab, VBA, SAS, C++ or equivalent

  • In-depth knowledge of investment risk management, and portfolio management theory. 

  • Experience with a broad range of investment vehicles across all asset classes and how they impact the total portfolio risk profile. This includes practical aspects such as market conventions, specific product knowledge, and best industry practices.

  • Ability to identify, evaluate and resolve complex issues and problems with strong analytical skills. 

  • Ability to think independently and take initiative to seize opportunities and minimize issues.

  • Strong collaborative skills.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to report complex information clearly and concisely.

  • Knowledge and experience in private market (private equity, infrastructure, real estate, private credit), portfolio stress testing, and ALM is strongly preferred.
