Position Summary

The MSU IT Enterprise Services Reporting Services team is responsible for partnering with departments across the university to assist with Business Intelligence administration and report development. The Tableau Developer will report to the Reporting Services and Data Science Manager.

Job Responsibilities Include Independently and under the direction of the lead Tableau developer, the Tableau Developer will:   Build interactive, customizable Tableau reports and dashboards to support client needs. Blend data, create action filters, parameters, and necessary calculations for data analysis and visualizations. Follow established standard processes, best practices, and documentation for Tableau development. Collaborate with the lead developer to gather requirements from clients and set timelines for dashboard development. Help troubleshoot platform issues as they arise. Establish connections to various data source types, such as Oracle, SharePoint, Microsoft SQL Server, and Spatial files. Utilize SQL queries to support Tableau solutions. Work with other BI tools or Data Science technologies may be required based on project work, departmental need, and employee interest.   Michigan State University (MSU) is a top 100 global university located in East Lansing, three miles east of the states capital. Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed; familiarity with SQL; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Three years of experience in Tableau, business intelligence (BI), and report and dashboard development

Ability to work under the direction of a lead Tableau developer

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Proven ability to develop, test, and implement complex analytics solutions

Consistently acts as a resource for other teams in resolving IT problems

Ability to create and maintain project-related documentation, organize and prioritize work, meet deadlines with minimal direct supervision and manage multiple projects simultaneously

Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills in a team environment

Familiarity with statistical methods. Experience with Python or R
