Job Summary

We seek a bright and motivated Database Architect to manage our company's architecture and strengthen our position in delivering database infrastructure services across private and Public Cloud environments.  The candidate will work with various Arch Organizations across the globe to define the approach and setting standards for sustaining the various database services used, cloud migration opportunities, review the existing implementations, recommend strategies to improve resiliency, simplicity, performance and optimize costs. In addition, the Database Architect will also help driving the Infrastructure as Code (IaC) transformation journey, from designing automation frameworks to leading the implementation strategy, rollout plans & delivering hybrid cloud services.

This position will work very closely with the VP/CTO of Corporate Infrastructure and the Global Corporate IT organization. Please note, this role may require up to 10% domestic or international travel

Job Responsibilities

  • Database Services Technology Custodian: Build a well-informed database services strategy and manage the adaption process to deliver cloud-based services. Designing Arch’s database services offerings ensuring data integrity and security across different platforms

  • Technology Selection and Evaluation: Research and recommend new database technologies, platforms, and tools to improve efficiency, scalability, and cost-effectiveness

  • Database Architecture Design: Create and implement the overall structure and design of database systems to meet current and future business needs, ensuring scalability, performance, and security

  • Capacity Planning and Performance Optimization: Forecast future data storage needs, optimize database performance by tuning queries, indexes, and database configurations, and address performance bottlenecks.

  • High Availability and Disaster Recovery Planning: Design and implement strategies to ensure database systems remain available in the event of hardware or software failures, natural disasters, or cyberattacks.

  • Enterprise Standards Compliance: Establish processes to ensure adherence to Arch standards, controls, policies, and procedures working with various business units, Infosec organization, and stakeholders

  • Documentation and Standards: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of database architecture, design, and configurations, and establish and enforce database standards and best practices

  • Data Migration and Integration: Evaluate, Plan and guide on data migration projects, transferring data between different databases or systems, and ensure data integration between various applications.

Desired Skills/Experience

  • Cloud Platforms: Deep expertise with major cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP, understanding their database services, networking, and security features

  • Database Technologies: Mastery of both relational (SQL) and NoSQL databases, including cloud-native and managed options. Familiarity with specialized databases optimized for AI/ML (e.g., graph databases, vector databases). Hands-on experience with designing and deploying cloud database technologies such as Snowflake, Databricks, Azure SQL Services, AWS RDS, Cosmos DB and MongoDB

  • Data Warehousing and ETL: Strong understanding of data warehousing principles, ETL processes, and data pipeline design, particularly within cloud environments.

  • AI/ML Frameworks and Tools: Working knowledge of AI/ML frameworks and libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) to understand data requirements and optimize data storage.

  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Proficiency with tools like Terraform or CloudFormation to automate the deployment and management of cloud database infrastructure. Knowledge of Deployment methodologies and hands-on experience with various CI/CD pipelines like Git Actions / Azure DevOps / Jenkins / Harness

  • ‘Big Data’ related experience and knowledge such as Azure Data Lake and HDInsight

  • Practical knowledge of APM, monitoring, and logging at scale

  • Experience working in a strategic advisory role to senior IT and business leaders

Required Skills/Experience

  • Minimum of 10+ years’ experience in designing, developing, configuring, and implementing enterprise database solutions with diverse solutions from multiple vendors on a large enterprise and global scale

  • 3+ years’ experience working on various Automation platforms like Terraform/Ansible/ARM Templates delivering Infrastructure as Code and automating management & operations

  • 5+ years’ experience delivering active Cloud technologies and service hosted in Azure and AWS

  • Ability to multi-task, meet project-specific deadlines, work in a team, and produce results independently

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Business, or related field, preferred

    For individuals assigned or hired to work in California, Colorado, Hawaii, Jersey City, NJ; New York State; and/or Washington State, the base salary range is listed below. This range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.

    $175,000 - $220,500/year

    • Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs.  The above range may be modified in the future
