Company Description

About Shopify

Opportunity is not evenly distributed. Shopify puts independence within reach for anyone with a dream to start a business. Since 2006, we’ve grown to over 10,000 employees and generated over $500 billion in sales for millions of merchants in 175 countries. Every 28 seconds, an entrepreneur on Shopify makes their first sale.

This is life-defining work that directly impacts people’s lives as much as it transforms your own. This is putting the power of the few in the hands of the many, is a future with more voices rather than fewer, and is creating more choices instead of an elite option.

About you

Moving at our pace brings a lot of change, complexity, and ambiguity—and a little bit of chaos. Shopifolk thrive on that and are comfortable being uncomfortable. That means Shopify is not the right place for everyone.

Before you apply, consider if you can:

  • Care deeply about what you do and about making commerce better for everyone
  • Excel by seeking professional and personal hypergrowth
  • Keep up with an unrelenting pace (the week, not the quarter)
  • Be resilient and resourceful in face of ambiguity and thrive on (rather than endure) change
  • Bring critical thought and opinion — and embrace differences and disagreement to get shit done and move forward
  • Work digital-first for your daily work

Job Description

As a Product Analytics professional, you'll be responsible for turning data into actionable insights that will help our team at Shopify build better products. This is not your typical data analysis role; you'll be expected to think critically and creatively about how to use data to solve complex problems.

We're looking for someone who is passionate about their craft and committed to continuously developing their skills. At Shopify, we operate on low process and high trust, so you'll need to be comfortable working in an environment where you have a lot of autonomy. We value impact over process, so you'll need to be able to get shit done and ship fast. If you're someone who thrives on change and can solve complex problems, then you've found the right place.

Joining our team means working with the most driven crafters who pursue mastery. We're building products for the long-term to make Shopify a 100-year company, and that requires an unrelenting pace. You'll need to be resilient and able to navigate ambiguity because we're constantly pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones. We're looking for someone who is willing to learn, grow, and thrive in an environment that values constant discomfort as an opportunity for growth.

In this role you will:

  • Contribute to the development and impact of the Analytics and Performance function within Shop
  • Work closely with Product and Marketing teams to build tools and processes that improve how performance is tracked and measured, and how data is used to influence Shop’s roadmap.
  • Uncover a stronger understanding of Shop’s users and their behaviours through data and experimentation to inform product development
  • Understand the nuance of our business and current initiatives, and translate that  into impact on KPI’s and Shop’s overall performance
  • Act as a storyteller of Shop’s overall health, relaying impact of product initiatives at the macro level, while uncovering opportunities to pursue further
  • Mentor other data scientists and operate as a technical guide for the team

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience using Python including a strong grasp of object oriented programming (OOP) fundamentals
  • Deep understanding of advanced SQL techniques
  • Proven expertise in designing and running experiments, and a track record of more advanced testing methods beyond A/B Testing
  • Experience building data pipelines and driving ETL design decisions
  • Experience building machine learning models (e.g. propensity models, recommendation system, risk, credit and trust models)
  • Proven track record creating data product strategies, shipping data products, iterating after launch, and trying again
  • Strong ability to prioritize and communicate to technical and non-technical audiences alike
  • Experience working in high-performance environments in data, operations, finance, strategy consulting, or another business intelligence / analytics role
  • Proven experience as a thought leader within a given domain. You highlight opportunities and identify risks that others may be blind to.

Nice to have:

  • You have played a key role in a fast growing consumer-focused startup or company
