Widener University is currently seeking a Data Analyst reporting to the Associate Vice President of Digital Transformation. The Data Analyst will be responsible for analyzing data systems and maximizing the value of data within the organization. This role will involve close collaboration with various departments to understand their data needs and provide actionable insights.

This position is eligible for hybrid or remote work arrangements within commuting distance of the main campus in Chester, Pennsylvania. U.S. work authorization is required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):

Essential duties:

  • Serve as a subject matter expert in data analysis within assigned areas. An essential area of support will be Academic Affairs and Student Success functions.
  • Develop and implement data collection systems and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and data quality.
  • Develop and maintain reports, dashboards, and data insights to support decision-making.
  • Contribute to the development of data governance policies and procedures.
  • Design and deliver training of staff on data-related tools and practices.

Secondary responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot and provide support for data-related technical issues and ensure data integrity.
  • Collaborate with different functional teams to implement models and monitor outcomes.
  • Actively engage with relevant professional organizations; attend job-related conferences or courses to enhance professional development.
  • Serve on university committees as befits the role;
  • Any other duties proper to the grade of the post as required by this role

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education/training and experience required):

Required:

  • U.S. work authorization
  • Education: A bachelor's degree in a related field such as Computer Science, Statistics, Information Management, Mathematics,
  • Experience:  Two (2) years + in a data analytics role  (a combination of education and/or equivalent years (5-6) of proven experience will be considered).
  • Data Analysis: The ability to collect, process, and perform statistical analyses on large datasets.
  • Technical Proficiency: Knowledge of and experience with statistical software and databases, such as SQL, R, Python, and Excel.
  • Data Visualization: The ability to create and interpret visual representations of data to identify trends and patterns.
  • Critical Thinking: The capacity to approach problems logically and propose data-driven solutions.
  • Communication Skills: The ability to communicate findings clearly and effectively to stakeholders with varying levels of technical knowledge.
  • Business Acumen: Understanding the business context and being able to translate data insights into business strategies.

Preferred:

  • Experience: Working in or with institutions of higher education. 
  • Data Modeling: Experience with data models, database design development, data mining, and segmentation techniques.
  • Big Data: Familiarity with big data technologies and tools, as well as the ability to work with large and complex data sets.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR UNUSUAL HOURS: 

  • This position is eligible for hybrid or remote work arrangements within commuting distance of the main campus in Chester, Pennsylvania.
  • This position may require nights, weekends and unusual hours depending on assigned work or university operations.
