Ibotta is looking for a Principal Engineer, Machine Learning & Data to join our innovative team and contribute to our mission to Make Every Purchase Rewarding.  As a member of the Enablement Tools organization, you’ll have the opportunity to help shape the future direction of key capabilities in the Machine Learning and Data space. The Principal Engineer role will report to the Engineering Director of Enablement Tools.

This position is located in Denver, Colorado as a hybrid position requiring 3 days in office, (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). Candidates must live in the United States.

What you will be doing:

  • Drive the advancement of our Enablement Tooling capabilities as a Strategic Technical Advisor with an initial focus on Machine Learning and Data (including quality and compliance)

  • Use your technical expertise to unlock the advancement of our engineering teams through the development of proofs of concept, new tools and integration methods in the ML and Data space

  • Be a people leader capable of motivating teams, influencing others and coaching engineers and other engineering leaders

  • Join special projects as needed through coding, guiding, and mentoring to ensure sound architectural implementation and smooth execution and delivery

  • Establish architecture vision, principles, and patterns in alignment with the Architecture Team

  • Work closely with engineering leaders and Staff+ engineers to inform the technical strategy and roadmap for the Enablement Tools organization

What we are looking for:

  • 7+ years of experience in software development

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field required

  • Fundamental knowledge of object-oriented software design, development and architectural principles

  • Knowledge of Machine Learning and Data principles, techniques, architectures and methods

  • Proven track record of success in driving results as a senior technical leader and coach/mentor to more junior engineers

  • Proven expertise owning and driving high-level decisions around object-oriented software design, development and architectural principles

  • Highly effective in leading others collaboratively to deliver a common vision

  • Deep understanding of development best practices including security, compliance, performance, optimization, reliability, cost efficiency, etc.

  • Deep understanding of building highly scalable, observable, and fault tolerant platforms using architectural patterns such as retries, circuit breakers, rate limiters, etc on top of horizontally scalable systems

  • Proven experience designing and  implementing observability, monitoring and alerting for services and establishing SLOs for services

  • High level of investment and expertise in testing approaches and frameworks, from unit testing to automated testing

  • Proven expertise with cloud environments (AWS strongly preferred), DevOps best practices, and Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g. Terraform, CloudFormation, etc)

  • Deep understanding of architectural concepts, microservices, serverless, event-driven, platforms, etc.

  • Experience building design systems, reusable web components, and site factories, a major plus

Additional Details:

  • This position is located in Denver, CO and includes competitive pay, flexible time off, benefits package (including medical, dental, vision), Lifestyle Spending Account, Employee Stock Purchase Program, and 401k match. Denver office perks include paid parking, bagel Thursdays, snacks and occasional meals.

  • Base compensation range: $228,000 - $253,000. Total compensation for this role also includes a variable component in addition to base salary. Equity is included in overall compensation package. This compensation range is specific to the United States labor market and may be adjusted based on actual experience.
