Position Summary

Lead discovery and optimization (LDO) is a diverse group of scientists and engineers, providing critical assay data to support the earliest stages of drug discovery. LDO is building the future of drug discovery via next generation phenotypic screening, where machine learning and computational biology tools are enabling successful implementation. Specifically, the data science and advanced analytics team within LDO is developing a suite of capabilities to:

Aid in rapid analysis of proteomic/transcriptomic datasets Quickly map screened compounds to putative pathways of interest (e.g. hypothesize on compound mechanism of action (MOA)) Build machine learning based tools to enable MOA prediction of unscreened compounds

We invite undergraduates enrolled in computational biology, bio/chemical engineering, or similar programs to join our team for a summer internship in 2025. The selected intern will work with our experienced team to help build in silico perturbation tools that will enable investigation of key pathways for a given program - before, during, and after screen results are available. This work will enable rapid hypothesis generation and significant reduction in timelines, thus having a substantial impact on the future of drug discovery.

Key Responsibilities

Work with the LDO computational and systems biology working group to learn existing approaches and identify key drivers for a minimum viable product for an in silico modeling tool Utilize historical program data to build a modeling approach that will enable in silico perturbation testing Enable the team to incorporate observational data (e.g. assay & ‘omics data) as it becomes available, to update the predicted outcomes Scale and release the solution to a broader audience

Qualifications & Experience

  • Undergraduate enrolled in a technically relevant degree program, such as Bio/Chemical Engineering, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Chemistry, etc.

  • Computational biology, bioinformatics, and/or systems biology experience

  • Experience with high throughput screening and/or proteomic/transcriptomic datasets

  • Programming and data visualization experience in one or more scripting languages such as Python or R

  • Experience with data engineering (e.g. SQL / Oracle databases and queries, AWS)

If you come across a role that intrigues you but doesn’t perfectly line up with your resume, we encourage you to apply anyway. You could be one step away from work that will transform your life and career.
