POSITION SUMMARY:

 

The Computational Biologist must be a highly motivated and goal-oriented Computational Biologist with a strong background in Bioinformatic analysis.  The Computational Biologist will have a thorough understanding of standard genomic datasets (mutation, CNV, gene expression, etc.) and the ability to build efficient pipelines to perform analysis on and extract gene/disease specific information from such data.  Additional duties will include the analysis and interpretation of other types of high-throughput molecular data. This opportunity offers a chance to work with a diverse range of biological data with a focus on real-world impact as part of a multidisciplinary team.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Statistical and bioinformatic analyses of clinical, genomic and high-throughput molecular data (omics)
  • Development and execution of data analysis protocols to support the company's drug discovery pipeline
  • Interpretation and understanding of analytic results from a biology perspective, and presentation of scientific findings internally and externally to a diverse audience
  • Research and implementation of innovative methods for data integration
  • Preparation and submission of scientific manuscripts for review and publication as well as support intellectual property filings
  • Other duties, as assigned 

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Master’s Degree with 2 years of experience, or Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or related field
  • 2+ years of direct-related professional work experience
  • A strong understanding of the statistical principles underlying common Bioinformatic analyses
  • Proven experience in applying computational methodologies to extract, process, and transform data from publicly available sources (TCGA, GEO, DbGap, etc)
  • Proficiency in R is required. Experience in Bioconductor is preferred 
  • Experience in Linux and Big Data technologies 
  • Proven ability to deliver outputs in a comprehensive format that highlights major trends, avoids misinterpretations and values the conclusions 
  • Proven ability to demonstrate attention to detail and record-keeping 
  • Must be able to work in a team-oriented environment 
  • Experience in the biotech, pharma, and/or healthcare industry is a plus
