Job Title: Senior Data Engineer

Contract Type: Permanent

Location:  Alderley Park

Working style: Hybrid 50% home/office based

Closing date: 7th October 2024

 

The Senior Data Engineer will develop, test, implement and maintain large-scale data processing systems, pipelines, and infrastructure to support data-driven decision making for the organisation.

 

About the role

 

  • Participating in the day-to-day operations of the data engineering function, ensuring that data engineering processes are running smoothly and efficiently, and addressing any issues or concerns that arise.
    • Data pipeline uptime and availability.
    • Data quality metrics.
    • Incident response time and resolution effectiveness.
    • Change management effectiveness.
    • Compliance with operational processes and controls.
    • Performance monitoring and optimisation.
  • Ensuring that data engineering deliverables are completed on time, within budget and to required quality standards.
    • Develops data solutions within own area of technical expertise.
    • Work with data owners/SMEs to gather and store appropriate data for analysis.
    • Build pipelines that transform and combine data into formats that data analysts/scientists can use
    • Tuning of data stores for performant analysis.
    • Deliverable completion time and budget adherence.
    • Deliverable quality standards compliance.
    • Customer satisfaction with deliverable outcomes.
  • Contributing towards identifying and implementing modern technologies and techniques to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of data engineering processes.
    • Technology adoption and implementation success.
    • Innovation impact on data engineering processes.
    • Innovation contribution to the data strategy.
  • Responsible for collaborating with other teams, such as our Group Data Office and IT teams to ensure Royal London’s needs are met.

 

 

About you

 

  • Strong skills using data querying languages.
  • Technical knowledge of common data platform components.
  • Solid experience in Azure cloud, Azure Databricks.
  • Strong skills in Python, PySpark.
  • Can work without supervision.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Good understanding of the full software development lifecycle.
  • Awareness of agile development practices.
  • Familiar with automated testing techniques and frameworks.
