We are looking for a Data Engineer to join Stora Enso's Nature Technologies’ Data & Analytics team in Forest division. In Nature Technologies function we are working with forest and biodiversity data to build a digital twin of the forest. In this scope, the Data & Analytics team is responsible for the development and maintenance of data warehouse and BI reporting to serve data solutions developed by the function.  Our D&A team consists of around seven people located in Finland, Sweden and in central Europe.

In your role, you will build and maintain ELT pipelines and modify data to fit reporting purposes together with other team members including a Data Architect. Building and maintenance of data pipelines potentially includes also source system integrations. You will also participate in refinement of business requests as per need, since contextual understanding is important in successful delivery of data to our stakeholders.

In this role, experience on Snowflake, dbt and Microsoft cloud software (e.g. Azure Data Factory), are appreciated. Moreover, experience in delivering Microsoft Fabric -based solutions is considered as an advantage.

The responsibilities of a Data Engineer include:

  • Data warehousing: Applying your knowledge of data warehousing principles to design, optimize, and maintain our data pipelines whilst ensuring data reliability and performance
  • Integrations and transformations: Utilizing your expertise in integrating data sources and transforming data into most suitable format for end us.
  • Collaboration: Contributing to team performance by sharing your expertise and best practices related to the tools in use as well as provide help data users who require support with our data products
  • Continuous improvement: Staying up to date with industry trends and technologies, recommending and implementing improvements to our processes

Who are we looking for?

To succeed in this role, you need the following skills:

  • Strong understanding of data warehousing and at least a few years of experience in data engineering work. Familiarity with most of the tools mentioned is preferred.
  • Ability to work with GIS data
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Flexible and optimistic attitude towards varying challenges
  • Fluency in English. Fluency in Finnish or Swedish is considered as an advantage
  • Knowledge of the forestry sector is considered as an advantage
