POSITION DUTIES AND QUALIFICATIONS 

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Under direction, positions assigned to this classification are primarily responsible for operational functions and routine audits as well as providing non-routine statistical methods and data analytics to help business partners make sound decisions that enhance operations.

The GIS Data Analyst II position at the City of Tucson’s Water Department designs, builds, and maintains business intelligence, reporting, and data analysis needs to help business partners make sound decisions that enhance operations. 

 

Work is performed under the supervision of the Management Coordinator. This position does not supervise. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs operational functions and routine audits using relational databases, geographic information systems software, and/or statistical programs to enhance business operations by assisting field technicians, maintenance and new development teams. 

 

  • Analyzes and interprets datasets using geographical information systems software, and or statistical programs to assist internal and external stakeholders to ensure that the City of Tucson and neighboring cities have safe and reliable water.  

 

  • Uses non-routine, data transformation tools to locate and map assets and infrastructure, including pipe networks, reservoirs to assist field crews and contractors maintain infrastructure. 

 

  • Manages and processes large geographic datasets to aid county, state and federal lawmakers in meeting water quality standards, i.e., identifying lead service lines, and EPA compliance etc. 

 

  • Aid in water conservation efforts by generating maps that allow teams to educate the public in storm water capture, retention and usage consultations. 

  • Creates and maintains projects on digital visualization platforms for internal and external clients for use in graphics and illustrations. Collaborates with cross-functional teams on spatial data projects.  

  • Assists in special projects. Develops and reviews standard operating procedures for periodic tasks. Provides backup to internal and external stakeholders to aid in field operations by collecting data as needed. 

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Mostly office environment.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor's degree

Work Experience:

Two (2) years of directly related experience

License:

Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

A valid and unrestricted driver’s license with two (2) years of licensed driving is required - Various

Languages:

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree in Geographic Information Systems, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Statistics or Mathematics, Economics, Finance, Engineering or any relevant applied analytical field.

Experience collecting and analyzing geospatial data using analytical software tools and data analysis methods.

Experience managing and processing large geographic datasets to support stakeholders with water resource compliance, regulatory and performance objectives.

Experience generating maps to support with public education around water resource related issues.

Experience using Geographic Information Systems and/or statistical programs to analyze and interpret datasets.

 COMPENSATION & BENEFITS Full Hourly Range: $29.23 - 50.43 USD

5. Indicate if you have a valid driver's license with at least two (2) years of licensed driving experience.
