SCOPE

Reporting to the Director of IT, the Manager of Data and Systems oversees the Data & Systems team at HearingLife Canada. In this role, you transform raw data into meaningful insights that guide business decisions. You and your team excel at filtering out noise, identifying key information, and presenting it clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You will require a 360-degree understanding of business operations to enable you to assess and recommend well thought-out changes to systems or operational procedures to improve data quality and implement business systems solutions. The data team also supports the products they deploy – using technical support best practices to help others navigate systems and reports and to troubleshoot problems. In this position, you are highly interested in database management and system design – integrating various data sources to create single source of truth, to enable information mobility, and to build applications and reports that display both transactional and enterprise data in a user-friendly way. Your curiosity drives you to develop frontend and backend solutions that drive operational efficiency, data-informed coaching, and continuous improvement. Additionally, you are experienced in project management, capable of leading data initiatives from conception through execution, ensuring timely delivery, resource allocation, and alignment with business goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACTIVITIES

Management:

  • Recruit top talent within scope of HearingLife culture and compensation parameters.
  • Inspire your team to cultivate an innovative mindset, embrace a can-do attitude, seek creative and scalable solutions, and effectively manage the fundamentals of data and systems.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and mentoring to empower team members to reach their full potential.
  • Set clear deliverables for team members, then monitor, follow-up, and recognize achievements.
  • Foster a culture of empathetic excellence, where high performance and innovation are balanced with humility and a genuine focus on the needs of others.

Drive Business:

  • Learn our BI universe and be the subject matter expert on data management, data structure, and systems
  • Identify problems that can be solved with technology by: Routinely participating in cross-departmental meetings, brainstorms, and workshops. Soliciting feedback and conducting gap analyses and analyzing business trends, work practices, and KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) for opportunities.
  • Build intentionality into the BI universe by developing reports, applications, and tools that deliver maximum business value, require minimal maintenance, and are designed to anticipate future needs, even if not immediately required.

Operational/Functional:
Business Support 

  • Anticipate resources required to maintain products to ensure efforts are sustainable.
  • Ensure team effectively supports users in interpreting reports, navigating team-built applications and Power BI, and understanding data structure around Blueprint and systems used by other departments.

Data Engineering 

  • Proactively assess company sales and operational performance by mining data and provide reports that highlight these trends. 
  • Produce ad-hoc analyses that help managers and leaders optimize results.
  • Own data quality – report, monitor, and follow-up on data quality matters to improve data integrity, reliability and usefulness. 
  • Define data entry standards within parameters of standard operating procedures – educate, continuously monitor changing operating standards and update in collaboration with Sales and Clinic Support.
  • Act as primary liaison with BI and Data experts.
  • Responsible for continuous validation of sales data between Blueprint, the cube and Power BI.

Business Applications 

  • Develop deep understanding of user systems, including features which interface with database along with their implications on data quality.
  • Own system migration and import activities, including discovery, scoping/gap analysis, mapping, technician liaison, testing, executive summary, post-mortem and continuous improvement. Minimize Field/Sales downtime to the degree possible.
  • Own enhancements and bug fixes of systems; including a focus on security and reliability.
  • Act as advisor and helper to the Business system Developer related to applications used by various departments.

Project Management

  • Lead data-driven projects, from planning through execution, ensuring alignment with business goals and stakeholder expectations.
  • Develop timelines, allocate resources, and monitor project progress to ensure delivery within scope, budget, and time constraints.

REQUIREMENTS, EXPERIENCE AND CONSIDERATIONS

  • Bachelor’s in Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management or Statistics.
  • 5+ years of experience in a management role.
  • Thorough understanding of data models, database design development, data mining and segmentation techniques.
  • An understanding of security best practices. 
  • An eye for User Experience Design and optimization.
  • Knowledge of and experience with reporting software (Power BI etc.), databases (SQL etc.), programming (Python, JavaScript, etc.) strongly desired.
  • Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing large datasets (Excel, SPSS, SAS, etc.).
  • Proven experience in project management, leading cross-functional initiatives and delivering results on time and within budget.
  • Ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Strong focus and organizational skills.
  • Adept at queries, report writing and presenting findings.
