Perception’s system architecture is at the heart of many of our onboard and offboard systems. Our systems power the development of hundreds of engineers. You will be designing, developing and improving Perception’s onboard system architecture by improving core designs and libraries. This role requires a deep understanding of system architecture and a passion for building robust, scalable solutions that empower our engineering teams to innovate. Using these core investments, you would be able to work across our teams to make the technology fast and flexible for new and existing applications. 

You will

  • Develop and extend the Perception library (foundation of Perception)
  • Improve the speed of simulation while maintaining fast onboard deployments
  • Advocate for (and implement) large structural changes in the perception code base
  • Anticipate future bottlenecks in perception architecture and plan for it 
  • Partner with teams within and outside Perception

You need

  • Strong C++ developer
  • Experience with the power and peril of multi-threaded systems 
  • Experience managing resources to get the maximum performance out of the system (CPU, GPU, TPU, memory, threads, etc…)

We Prefer

  • Robotics or physical systems background (deploying software to the cloud is one thing, deploying software to a fleet of vehicles is another thing entirely)
  • Love of developing beautiful, simple and elegant code 
  • Experience developing in Python 
  • An understanding of ML lifecycle
  • Experience building systems with hundreds of users

The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for the role location or, if the role can be performed remote, the specific salary range for your preferred location, during the hiring process. 

Waymo employees are also eligible to participate in Waymo’s discretionary annual bonus program, equity incentive plan, and generous Company benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements. 

Salary Range$158,000—$200,000 USD
