You will…- Lead and own all functional safety topics at Waabi with a strong focus on software quality, define a holistic, effective and yet simple fallback management approach and oversee the strict implementation of it.- Act as a central point of contact at Waabi for all matters related to functional safety and communicate updates, progress and potential roadblocks to stakeholders at all levels.- Help drive Waabi’s safety culture through application of safety standards and methodologies in your area of responsibility across all supporting teams at Waabi including Systems Engineering, Software and Hardware.- Define the overall functional safety concept for the self-driving system and assist with evidence generation by hands on performing hazard and safety analysis in accordance to applicable guidelines.- Continuously evaluate and enhance Waabi’s functional safety processes and fallback management system, look for novel approaches, identify and apply lessons learned and ensure a detailed and comprehensive functional safety documentation that is easily accessible.- Implement tools and methodologies to streamline and automate functional safety processes where applicable.- Work with external partners on integrating and verifying functional safety of the complete self-driving system.- Lead or assist in functional safety audits and assessments.
Qualifications:- Undergrad required; Masters or PhD within an engineering discipline preferred.- 5+ years of automotive, robotics, aerospace or related industry experience.- Experience with functional safety and systems engineering in complex safety critical fields.- Experience with standards such as ISO 26262, SOTIF (ISO 21448) and / or  UL 4600.- Experience with failure and fault analysis such as DFMEA, FTA, or STPA.- Strong fundamentals in mathematics, engineering and physics.- Ability to communicate complex concepts or data in a simple-yet-accurate manner.- Excellent data analysis skills with modern tools such as Python or Matlab.- Open-minded and collaborative team player with the willingness to help others.- Passionate about self-driving technologies, solving hard problems, and creating innovative solutions.
Bonus/nice to have:- Certifications related to functional safety.- Experience in leading small teams of functional safety engineers.- Experience in the automotive self driving industry.- Experience building software systems from scratch.- Experience in robotics or machine learning.- Proficiency with data mining, mathematics, and statistical analysis.- Experience with tools that support functional safety development like ANSYS Medini or similar.
The US yearly salary range for this role is: $151,000 - $266,000 USD in addition to competitive perks & benefits. Waabi (US) Inc.’s yearly salary ranges are determined based on several factors in accordance with the Company’s compensation practices.
