INVISTA is seeking a Modeling & Analytics Engineer for our Houston Chemical Plant (HCP).

This role will be based at the Houston Propylene plant supporting both the Houston and Longview sites.


Our Team

The INVISTA Propylene Monitoring team supports asset reliability and production of propylene and polypropylene by developing and maintaining equipment and process monitoring models to detect anomalies and collaborating with sites to respond to anomalies, enabling proactive failure prevention.

This role will be primarily focused on model building as you become the modeling SME for the Propylene Monitoring Team. Also, as a member of the Transformation organization, you will be expected to continuously innovate and improve our processes, systems, and yourself to stay competitive in our business.


What You Will Do

Model Deployment (75%)

  • Utilizing data analysis techniques and process/equipment knowledge, build monitoring models in various platforms to automatically detect process and asset anomalies, predict failures, and inform decision-making to prevent or mitigate equipment failures and lost production
  • Work with reliability and process SMEs to prioritize monitoring opportunities and build high quality and actionable models.
  • Document model design and assumptions for models built and incorporate lessons learned into model quality guidelines
  • Seek opportunities to apply advanced and innovative modeling techniques and create relationships with third parties to build knowledge and mutually benefit from best practices.
  • Continue to improve and apply skills in data analytics and modeling

Model Maintenance (25%)

  • Partner with Monitoring Analyst to drive continuous improvement of existing monitoring models to meet quality and availability targets in all monitoring platforms


Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering with at least two (2) years of process industry experience (understanding of chemical processes and associated equipment) OR High School Diploma with at least ten (10) years process or reliability experience
  • Highly organized and contribution-motivated individual who is personally driven to develop expertise in data analytics, share best practices internally and externally, and continuously innovate to create value for the propylene business
  • Experience with model deployment (design, build, test, implement) in platforms such as SEEQ, Prometheus APM, OSI PI Asset Framework in a chemical/refining environment
  • Ability to travel 10-20% of time


What Will Put You Ahead

  • Expertise and/or certification related to predictive data analytics (applied AI analytics/machine learning, regression, time series forecasting, python coding)
  • Knowledge and understanding of asset reliability fundamentals (rotating, fixed, electrical, instrumentation, analyzers, process control systems)
