We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Data Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in AWS, Databricks, Python, Trillium, Teradata, SQL, Unix scripting, and Informatica PowerCenter. This role requires a strong understanding of data engineering techniques, data cleansing, and matching processes, as well as excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize Trillium for data cleansing, standardization, and matching processes, with a focus on US Census data file matching.
  • Manage and optimize AWS services including S3, EFS, EBS, Lambda, and IAM roles.
  • Perform data engineering tasks using Databricks, including integrating JSON files from S3 into the raw layer and applying best practices.
  • Develop and maintain Python scripts for data processing and automation.
  • Extract data from various data stores, including relational databases and file structures such as CSV, XML, and JSON.
  • Use Teradata utilities (BTEQ, Fast Load, Multi Load) for data extraction and manipulation.
  • Write and maintain Unix shell scripts, including wrapper scripts, and monitor Unix logs for errors.
  • Create and troubleshoot complex SQL queries for backend testing and production issue resolution.
  • Utilize Informatica PowerCenter Client tools (Mapping Designer, Repository Manager, Workflow Manager/Monitor) for ETL processes.

 

Qualifications:

  • Expertise in Trillium Control Centre, cleansing, standardization, and matching processes.
  • Strong knowledge of AWS services (S3, EFS, EBS, Lambda) and IAM roles.
  • Proficient in Databricks data engineering and best practices.
  • Advanced skills in Python programming.
  • Experience with Teradata and its utilities (BTEQ, Fast Load, Multi Load).
  • Proficient in SQL and Unix scripting.
  • Experience with data extraction from various data stores and file structures.
  • Strong proficiency in Informatica PowerCenter Client tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Well-organized, quick learner, and self-motivated.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Good Experience with Trillium based cleansing, standardization and US Census data file matching process in Trillium.
  • Experience in interacting with end-users, understanding their requirements and troubleshooting production issues.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

As a Software Engineer, you will focus primarily on providing high quality, efficient technology solutions to business partners by crafting new software applications or modifying and/or supporting existing packaged or custom-built applications. In this capacity, you’ll analyze, code, configure, test, debug, document and maintain applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes, solutions, develops, tests, debugs, documents and deploys software according to standards in an agile environment.

  • Applies secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to ensure our data and technology solutions are protected from threats and vulnerabilities.

  • Uses DevSecOps practices, tooling and techniques.

  • Drives continuous improvement and learning through ongoing training, practice and innovation.

  • Manages medium to large project priorities, deadlines and deliverables proactively.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to a Technology Manager/Director. 

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Completion of undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, or other related degree. Technology experience or non-traditional technology certificates can be substituted for an undergraduate degree. 

Experience: Four or more years of analysis and technology experience.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Proficiency in one or more programming language such as Java, C++, Python, JavaScript. Strong knowledge of software development lifecycle. Proven ability to tackle complex business and development problems. Ability to thrive in a team environment. Insurance/financial services industry knowledge a plus.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence. 

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and Human Resources Business Partner.

Nationwide pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement within the actual starting salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. If a Sales job, Sales Incentives, based on performance goals are possible in addition to this range.

The national salary range for Specialist, Software Engineer : $82,000.00-$170,000.00

The expected starting salary range for Specialist, Software Engineer : $91,000.00 - $137,000.00
