Duties

  • Providing expertise to process large genomics and biomedical data sets; familiarity with NGS data analysis
  • Providing expertise in data storage, data sharing and data organization; working with the clinical laboratory staff to develop workflows in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
  • Developing and maintaining databases/graphic user interfaces (GUI) key to laboratory functions; adhering to hospital and departmental mission and value statements while maintaining patient confidentiality
  • Processing and analysis of clinical next-generation sequence data sets including both DNA and RNA analysis
  • Developing and maintaining existing clinical pipelines and identifying and testing new tools and methods for NGS data analysis
  • Further supporting the clinical laboratory through providing reports, result analysis, methods and code development and proper documentation
  • Provide recommendations for novel or improved approaches for data analysis and interpretation; provide recommendations for corrective actions for existing data analysis workflows

Qualifications

  • Bachelors of Science (BSc) in Computer Science, Bioinformatics or Biology required, with Masters of Science, preferred
  • Knowledge of bioinformatics, with an emphasis on genome sequence analysis and gene annotation. Background in biology, genetics, and statistics
  • Experience with bioinformatics resources, databases, tools and common standard formats
  • Experience developing and implementing pipelines for the processing of large genomics and biomedical data sets
  • Proficiency in Linux, version control (git) and writing scripts in python and R is essential
  • Experience with full-stack development, databases, frameworks, and APIs
  • Effective oral and written communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with HPC environments and how to run applications in HPC clusters is highly desirable
  • Experience with Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) system development and implementation, an asset
