AI/ML Governance Leader

Role Background: The AI Oversight and Governance (AIOG) team at J.P Morgan Chase (JPMC) supports the safe and responsible adoption of AI/ML by establishing minimum standards, developing best practices, and implementing controls throughout the Model Development Life Cycle (MDLC). The Chief Analytics Office (CAO) owns JPMC’s AIOG framework and collaborates across Risk & Controls, Data Scientists, Product and Business to define and implement controls, mitigate Risks, standardize processes, and provide transparency on AI/ML related matters.

The Firmwide AIOG defines and maintains standards across MDLC and AI/ML Governance in accordance with regulatory/legislative requirements and internal business needs. AIOG establishes AI/ML Firmwide and Line of Business (LOB)/Corporate Functions (CF) Governance roles and responsibilities and identifies barriers to JPMC’s safe and responsible adoption of AI/ML at scale. 

The CCB Chief Data & Analytics Offier (CDAO) is establishing the CCB AI/ML Governance Program Office which acts as the single point of contact responsible for AI/ML Governance activities and oversight. The AI/ML Governance Lead will coordinate across the Firmwide AIOG team and Line of Business Key Stakeholders including sub-LOB Leads, Technology, AI/ML practitioners and Risk & Controls representing CCB in all AI/ML Governance Activities. 

This role is crucial for ensuring effective governance of CCB AI/ML initiatives, aligning with regulatory requirements, and fostering a culture of responsible AI/ML adoption.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Represent CCB in AI/ML Forums and Committees, providing key input on AIOG initiatives, facilitating review of AI/ML Policies and Procedures, and serving as an escalation point on related matters.
  • Lead and build a comprehensive Governance Framework, supporting an integrated approach to the identification, assessment, mitigation and escalation of AI/ML Models and Analytical Tools.
  • Oversee a team responsible for AI/ML governance activities including Inventory Monitoring, Analytical Tool Documentation and Confirmation. Additional Estimation Governance may apply.
  • Establish a cross-functional AI/ ML Community of Practice including Data Science, sub-LOB sponsorship and Risk & Controls to ensure alignment with Governance policies.
  • Provide support for Audit, CCOR, and Supervisory requests, inquires, Exams and assessments. Sponsor any requirement Issue/AP remediation activity. 
  • Ensure Readiness and Risk Assessment support for Large Language Models (LLM) and Generative AI (GenAI)
  • Engage FW AIOG and LOB Product Office to review opportunities to uplift execution and adherence to AI/ML MDLC processes.
  • Identify Industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes impacting CCB’s AI/ML Governance and Controls.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • 10+ years in Governance, Audit, Controls or Data Science with proven Leadership experience.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Math or a relative quantitative field.
  • Expertise across the AI/ML lifecycle, including data discovery, processing, solution development, deployment, risk and controls and ongoing monitoring.
  • Highly motivated individual with advanced skill sets in strategy, problem-solving and execution.
  • Excellent managerial skills with the ability to design and influence across multiple leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Leadership role in AI/ML Audit, Exam and Regulatory requests.
  • Proven experience in AI/ML Governance, Risk & Control Management with a strong understanding of AI/ML technologies.
  • Proven experience leading and collaborating across Business, Technology, Compliance and Controls functions to address escalations and make sound decisions

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Professional certification in AI/ML, Data Science or related field.
  • Advanced knowledge of Firmwide AI/ML & Estimation Policy, Standards, Risk and Controls specifically in consumer, retail banking lines of businesses
  • In depth knowledge of AI/ML regulatory requirements and ethical considerations, data and security.
  • Familiarity with MLOps principles and the MDLC lifecycle.
  • Experience in AI/ML solution development, including LLM and GenAI
  • Experience with AI/ML tools and cloud platforms (e.g., Py Torch, AWS, Azure, TensorFlow, Python, Google Cloud)
  • Working knowledge of AI/ML industry trends, vendor ecosystem and related political, ethical and socio-economic risks and impacts
