Senior Scientist, R&D

POSITION SUMMARY:  

We are looking for an inquisitive and creative Senior Scientist to be a key member of our Molecular Biology Research Team. As a successful candidate, you will work on initiating, directing and executing pre-product scientific research to build tools & technology to expand Natera's state-of-the-art product portfolio. Candidates with deep understanding of molecular biology and significant experience in developing NGS oncology assay for MRD detection will be considered.

 PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions, products and problem solving 
• Independently leads projects to create and develop novel nucleic acid based diagnostic tests; including planning, feasibility testing, protocol development, and optimization
• Responsible for executing projects as per associated timelines and deliverables
• Ability to work cross functionally with other groups such as statistics and bioinformatics, development, product, and project management teams 
• Documents research progress under a Quality Management System 
• Communicates progress directly with colleagues and senior management

 QUALIFICATIONS:  

• Ph.D. in molecular biology or closely related field
• Minimum of 5 years of industry experience or 2 years of post-doctoral research + 3 years of industry experience 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:  

• Must have hands-on experience with next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies and basic molecular biology techniques, including DNA/RNA, multiplex PCR, hybrid capture, digital PCR
• Track record of originating, developing and productizing novel nucleic acid techniques and tests. Experience in developing NGS-based oncology assays for MRD detection a plus
• Must have excellent communication, organizational, record-keeping, planning and time management skills
• Proven success in managing collaborative and individual projects, previous experience managing research scientists a plus
• Demonstrated success in applying independent scientific judgment in experimental design and analysis
• Adept with data analysis and statistical testing using Excel, JMP, R or other data analysis environments
• Bioinformatics capabilities, programming (e.g. PERL, python) and database experience (SQL) are a plus
• Skilled at writing clear plans, reports and SOPs

The pay range is listed and actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications and specific office location. This may differ in other locations due to cost of labor considerations.San Carlos, CA $125,300—$156,600 USD
