About the Role
 

The role of the Data Analyst I is to provide support to the STM Journals Data & Analytics team. As a Data Analyst you will be using a variety of tools such as SQL, data warehouse technology, spreadsheets and dashboards. You will be developing and advancing your analytics skills and team capabilities. This is an entry-level position in an internal-facing team, and you would be supported with internal training resources, and with more senior data analysts in the team to help guide you in developing your data analyst skills.
 

Responsibilities
 

  • Supporting and learning from more senior members of the team by contributing to analytics tasks and projects.
  • Interpreting requests from stakeholders and identifying the appropriate response or output, including guidance on interpreting data or using tools.
  • Pulling and exporting data from various systems, and cleaning, blending, or processing it appropriately.
  • Communicating data outputs and participating in presentation of results where necessary.
  • Producing recurring reports and maintaining dashboards as assigned.
  • Proactively identifying opportunities to bring value or efficiency to the business or the team mission, and to develop your skills as a data analyst.


Requirements
 

  • Have knowledge of tools and technology used in data analytics, including being able to describe what SQL is and what it is for, describe a relational data model in a database, and describe some common reporting tool concepts such as measures, dimensions, and filters.
  • Have knowledge of basic data analysis techniques including data cleaning and blending, as well as basic statistical concepts such as mean, median, probability and standard deviation.
  • Be able to create, interpret, and choose appropriate data visualizations for the business problem (eg tables, line charts, bar charts).
  • Be detail-oriented and possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
