What you can expect from this position:

The Senior Capacity Planning Analyst reports to the Manager, Capacity Allocation and will provide analysis and insight to the Airport Operations group and the GTAA. The role will provide value in enabling corporate strategies, defining and actioning capacity planning of airport resources, and supporting initiatives designed to make the GTAA a data driven operation and business.

As a Senior Capacity Planning Analyst, you will:

  • Analyzes data from multiple internal and external sources to provide structured and fact-based insight/research into the operation for both internal and external parties.
  • Defines capacity/operational problems related to existing and potential airport systems
  • Provides recommendations and strategies to advance capacity planning approaches and improve airport operational performance
  • Develops, uses and maintains statistical analysis models, forecasting and business intelligence tools to find and prompt improvement in operations, asset utilization, support both long- and short-term planning, maintain legal/contractual agreements, aid in the development of action plans and validate performance as defined
  • Develops, uses and maintains airport simulation software tools
  • Leads operational research such as survey design and methodologies
  • Collaborates with GTAA IT and third-party vendors to drive and support existing or new applications/initiatives/skills which enable the ability of GTAA to continue to improve and strive for excellence
  • Use data to assess, guide and influence business process and capacity improvement, while meeting both client and corporate needs
  • Develops and administers both automated and manual reporting templates/systems to deliver the right information at the right time
  • Develops reports and dashboards to support key airport operational decision making, in a level of detail suited to the intended audience
  • Ensure regular or ad-hoc reports are accurate, consistent, effective and timely for distribution to both internal and external parties to address demand and capacity questions, future outlooks and plans
  • Develops and delivers presentations to key stakeholders and leadership
  • Develops, uses and maintain future/forward looking data systems to support the use of accurate, quality, accessible and relevant operational and contextual data to meet short term and long-term operational planning needs.
  • Work with internal and external parties to collect and validate large and detailed data sets for both forensic and predictive analysis, modelling, automated reports and corporate records.

This unionized position has hourly wage of $50.11, based on a 37.5 hour work week. The successful candidate must be available to commence the duties of the position once a selection decision has been made. Testing will be administered as a part of the competitive process. 

This is the role for you, if you have:

  • Post-secondary degree required, graduate degree an asset (engineering, urban planning, operations, computer science)
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in data management, data and statistical analysis, modelling and reporting
  • Minimum 8 years’ professional work experience in airport, airline, transportation, urban planning, operations research or statistical analysis preferred
  • Ability to obtain and retain a Transportation Security Clearance at the designated level for the position

Knowledge and Skills you bring, that set you up for success:

  • In depth understanding of airport processes
  • Sound knowledge of airport systems, functions and operations
  • Strong presentation skills (both in creating and delivering presentations)
  • Drive to learn and master new technologies and techniques
  • Ability to coordinate a number of projects concurrently to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Appreciation of systems-based operations and their relations to each other (i.e. qualifying and quantifying flow, process, influencing factors and bottlenecks)
  • Experience with and knowledge of specific portfolios of airport data and operations is preferred. Portfolios of work will be shared across staff, and include airport capacity planning and analysis, aircraft flow, gating, towing and parking planning, ground handling activity analysis, terminal planning (short- to long-term), groundside planning, schedule analysis (airline feeds, slots, schedule changes, adherence), baggage operations (inbound delivery, outbound delivery, screening, apron activities, connections), and winter operations (snow removal, deicing).etc.
  • Constructively questions established processes and guidelines in the spirit of continual improvement and optimization by the application of data, critical thinking, research and adopting new approaches/technologies.
  • Ability to work efficiently with large and complex data sets and convey, via various channels (written, verbal, static/dynamic graphical formats) relevant insights and tell a story/narrative to respective audiences to gain buy in or prompt improvement action.
  • Ability to apply advanced statistics to summarize, examine, and model data to capture current and/or predictive states of performance.
  • Demonstrated experience with BI tools as Power BI, MicroStrategy, Tableau
  • Demonstrated experience with databases such as Access and Oracle –
  • Experience with SQL, Visual Basic Programming/scripting and using statistical computer languages (R, Python, etc.) is an asset
  • Demonstrates strong communication in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Proficient with general software as Microsoft Office, and advanced experience with Excel and PowerPoint required
  • Dependable, self-motivated, exhibiting initiative, tact and a mature approach when working with both internal and external parties/peers, conflict and high-pressure situations.
  • Adaptable to work with changing priorities and new technologies.
  • Ability to conduct research individually or as in a team, onsite (i.e. in operational areas) or an office setting.
  • Establishes effective working relationships with management, coworkers, front line staff and stakeholders.
