Thesis work is an excellent way to get closer to Scania and build relationships for the future. Many of today's employees began their Scania career with their degree project.

Project Description:

Scania has autonomous mining trucks operating at a mine in Australia. In that operation, accurate mass estimation is of high importance. It is crucial for accurate and robust control of the vehicle, but also for understanding how much material that is being moved and to detect overload. This project aims to enhance the accuracy of mass estimation through input design. Input design or experiment design is a field within system identification/machine learning, where the input can be chosen in a way to minimize the prediction error of a model. The input in this case is the propulsion force acting on the vehicle. Autonomous trucks are especially suitable for applying input design to the propulsion force, since there is no driver comfort to consider.

Key Objectives

Develop and implement input design strategies to improve mass estimation accuracy.
Collaborate with Scania’s engineering team to integrate new input designs into existing production system.
Analyse and validate the performance of the proposed solutions through simulations and real-world testing with a truck in Södertälje.

Education/Program/Focus:

Currently enrolled in a master’s program in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in programming languages such as MATLAB, Python, or similar.
Knowledge in system identification and vehicle dynamics is a plus.
