We are looking for a highly driven and motivated:

 

Cheminformatics Scientist

 

We are seeking a skilled Cheminformatics Scientist to join our ingredient modeling team. This team is at the forefront of developing and leveraging AI/Ml algorithms and models to innovate our internal ingredient discovery processes for fragrance, taste and other business areas of dsm-firmenich.

This role offers the opportunity to work on projects that integrate computational chemistry with advanced data science methodologies – all while working in close collaboration with leading domain experts in the field of discovery chemistry, olfaction and taste.

The main factors for a successful application are
 

  • Strong background in cheminformatics, coupled with experience in Python, AI/ML and cloud computing platforms. Web development and UI design a plus.
  • Experience with and ability to perform in a new and growing team, while delivering and sharing success – while having fun to build and learn together!
  • Strong team player with excellent communication skills and ability to quickly build good understanding of the business/application domain as well as R&D.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and implement cheminformatics algorithms and models to support and innovate dsm-firmenich’s new ingredient discovery process.
  • Utilize Python and its most common libraries (e.g., NumPy, SciPy, pandas, scikit-learn) to build and optimize machine learning models.
  • Apply neural network architectures, including graph neural networks, to solve complex ingredient modeling problems.
  • Deploy and manage machine learning workflows on Azure cloud infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate scientific requirements into scalable and user-friendly modeling tools.
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in cheminformatics, machine learning, and neural networks, and apply this knowledge to drive innovation within the team.
  • You apply modern tools such as git, generative AI, graph and relational data models, cloud-native computing and API endpoints to do your daily work.

You Bring:

  • Ph.D. in Cheminformatics, Computational Chemistry, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 2-3 years of additional academic or industrial work experience in cheminformatics and computational chemistry, ideally applied to fragrance and taste domains, or drug discovery.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and its data science libraries (NumPy, SciPy, pandas, scikit-learn etc.).
  • Strong proficiency in state-of-the art cheminformatics toolkits such as RDKit.
  • Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms and techniques.
  • Experience with (graph) neural networks.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure cloud services is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to convey complex concepts to non-experts.
