ARES Corporation is seeking a Mid-career Systems Engineer and Configuration/Data Management (CDM) professional knowledgeable in performing the configuration and data management functions sought for the Exploration Upper Stage (EUS) Element Office within the Space Launch System (SLS) Program at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC). This full-time position will perform configuration and data management functions utilizing Windchill, Jira, SharePoint, and Microsoft Office products. The position requires operational knowledge in all five functions of Configuration Management: Planning, Identification, Change Management, Status Accounting and Audits/Verification. The position requires flexibility to cover various functions including Control Board facilitation, Change Management processing, CSA reporting, and auditing. The successful candidate will be able to take a proactive approach in working with existing CDM personnel to manage required processes with particular focus on electronic processes using existing tools. This position will support MSFC and SLS/EUS efforts to move into a model-based engineering, digital thread environment.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Interface with Element personnel and personnel on the SLS Program as well as the EUS Prime Contractor to implement all aspects of the CM and DM functions.
  • Provide guidance and recommendations on the execution and improvement of CM and DM processes for the Stages Element.
  • Facilitate the  change management process including support to the Control Board including the  Secretariat role.
  • Manage Element data in the ICE Windchill environment.
  • Perform the Configuration Status Accounting function.
  • Work with Element personnel to coordinate the review process and to ensure completeness of their product prior to presentation to the control board.
  • Perform the Records Management function for the CDM records in the Element Office.
  • Handle Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), ITAR and other export control or proprietary data following NASA and MSFC requirements and guidelines.
  • Provide support to design review planning, to include DM support for data package development, receipt, tracking and delivery.
  • Interface with, and accept data deliverables from, Prime Contractors and/or Prime Contractor data systems and MSFC Engineering Release.

Job Specifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 5 years of applicable experience is required. A Masters degree may be used to substitute for 3 yrs experience. The following may be substituted for the Bachelor’s Degree requirement: Associates Degree and 7 yrs experience -or- High School Diploma and 9 yrs experience.
  • Recent experience managing configuration baselines and/or program data within a digital environment is strongly desired.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel & Power Point) is required.
  • Strong organization skills, attention to detail and excellent follow-through skills are required.
  • Experience in the use of CDM systems such as Windchill or SharePoint or equivalent is required.
  • Experience performing the CSA function using a database such as Jira, ACESS or equivalent is desired.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team to accomplish program objectives is desired.
  • Certification in CDM or related field such as the National Defense Industry Association (NDIA) Certification is desired.
  • US Citizenship required.
  • Ability to obtain clearance/access onsite at NASA MSFC is required.
