Job Description

The Data & Analytics (D&A) team support the greater portion of TAL with information products, analytics, and insights to support executive, management and operational information needs to aide decision making and satisfy regulatory reporting requirements. Primarily this includes the creation, build and running of reports for Individual Life (Retail & Direct), Group Life and Investments, Regulatory and Claims; and more recently has also establishment of reporting governance across TAL, driven by TAL’s priorities and regulator expectations.

In this role you will: 

The high-level services provided by D&A include:

  • Provision of lists/data and other information to enable operational processes.
  • PowerBI and Tableau information products - enhancements to existing and development of new dashboards and reports.
  • Training on how to use dashboards (existing and new); and
  • Change Management and Troubleshooting to resolve incidents.

  • Enthusiastically collaborates with other teams and colleagues.
  • Contributes to proactive, consistent customer experience across the underwriting team, identifying customer issues and opportunities to resolve them.

Qualifications

  • Over 4 years of BI Developer experience working in the same or similar role in a financial services or life insurance company desirable.
  • A Bachelor’s degree Tertiary qualification in Business, Computer Science, Information Technology, Economics, or related discipline or equivalent.
  • Data Analytical skills within a large data driven organisation, including data concepts.
  • Strong knowledge of Visualisation Tools (preferably Power Bi)
  • Strong knowledge of BI Tools within an organisation
  • An understanding of programming languages such as Python, R, SQL, and general coding.
  • Commercially astute and a strong customer focus.
  • Excellent Communication, Problem solving, Critical Thinking and networking/relationship management skills.
  • Good working knowledge on Agile practices and Project Management
  • Basic understanding of design principles and their application, principles like balance, contrast, alignment, and proximity. Applying these principles to simple projects.
  • Understanding the importance of identifying potential risks and the basic methods for assessing these risks.
  • Ability to work autonomously and plan own work with high attention to detail.
  • Professional Development – attend and actively participate in training opportunities, both internal and external.
