The Associate Epidemiologic Research Analyst assists in the analyses of research data by developing, managing and maintaining databases, and applying appropriate statistical and/or mathematical techniques to summarize data.

Overview:

The Department of Global Pediatric Medicine (GPM) at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (SJCRH) is a growing department looking for professionals who are eager to help implement the St. Jude Global (SJG) mission of training the clinical workforce, developing and strengthening health systems and patient-centered initiatives, and advancing knowledge to sustain continuous improvement through research. 

The department seeks an Associate Epidemiologic Research Analyst (Health Systems Quality Specialist) to work with GPM and program collaborators around the world. The ideal candidate would apply health systems science, research and data skills to knowledge translation and data interpretation projects, with the aim to inform decision-making, planning, and implementation related to St. Jude’s work as World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Childhood Cancer.

Responsibilities:

GPM/SJG is seeking an Associate Epidemiologic Research Analyst, to assist and support analyses of a growing number of research studies focused on improving outcomes in low- and middle-income countries related to St. Jude’s work as World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Childhood Cancer. Among other activities, in 2018, St. Jude initiated a collaboration with WHO for a global effort to cure at least 60% of children with six of the most common kinds of cancer worldwide by 2030.  Since then, St. Jude has supported the WHO Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer to engage government, policy, clinical, academic, civil society leaders, and collaborators across all six WHO regions to increase access to quality care for children with cancer.  To support these efforts, the Associate Epidemiologic Research Analyst will assist in research studies by using appropriate health systems and policy research methodologies, support analyses of research studies using appropriate software, and communicate relevant research information with clinicians, behavioral scientists, statisticians, and other professional and general audiences. As this key team member will interact with a variety of colleagues and global collaborators including international agencies, government and program administrators, the ability to communicate clearly and establish positive working relationships is essential.

The Associate Epidemiologic Research Analyst will be responsible for:

  • Meeting with clinicians, scientists, and other research and quality personnel to design, develop, and implement appropriate research and health systems methodologies, analytics plans, and tools

  • Working with St. Jude Global collaborators and program teams across diverse settings to identify information gaps and need for data assets

  • Helping collaborators and teams to develop and implement structured/dynamic data generation activities/tools to address identified needs

  • Establishing and maintaining tools to document research progress, including appropriate dashboards

  • Supporting collaborators in establishing and maintaining monitoring and evaluation plans to support research/programmatic goals

  • Assisting in grant proposals, dissemination of results, and program growth

  • Communicating objectives and relevant information to internal and external stakeholders, including working with teams to summarize research findings and explore patterns in data with non-research audiences

  • Preparing and presenting organized data sets, summaries, reports, and analyses among the different team members at St. Jude and at global sites

  • Analyzing studies related to activities with WHO, including in support of the WHO Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of health systems and related analysis methods.

  • Knowledge of programming software such as R, Python, and geospatial software such as ArcGIS.

  • Knowledge of word processing software (Microsoft Word), including spelling and grammar checking tools; knowledge of table creation.

  • Knowledge of database software such as Access, Oracle, etc.

  • Knowledge of presentation software and other mediums used for presentation purposes, with knowledge of standard graph and chart types, including scatter plots, line graphs, and bar charts. Graphic software knowledge of programs such as Excel, PowerPoint, Harvard Graphics, and Business Intelligence software such as PowerBI, Tableau, etc.

  • Excellent writing skills to effectively communicate results to investigators.

  • Ability to verbally express ideas effectively.

  • Ability to interpret statistical data.

  • Ability to evaluate reports, research studies and other data.

  • Ability to translate technical systems analysis terminology into terms understandable to non-specialists.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines in a professional manner.

  • Other United Nations languages an asset.

  • Flexibility in working across time zones beneficial.

  • Experience in international setting preferred.

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in biostatistics, statistics, epidemiology or related field required

  • Masters’ Degree preferred

Minimum Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years of related experience required

  • Experience Exception: Master’s degree with no years of experience

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $78,000 - $139,360 per year for the role of Associate Epidemiologic Research Analyst, Global Pedicatric Medicine.
