Mission/Core purpose of the job
- To develop consumer products and services for MTN Benin’s Mobile Data and Home Data Segments, ensuring profitability and continuous improvement and taking into account technological advancement in Data, competitor activities and market trends
- Formulation and implementation of MTN Benin’s device strategy and ensure alignment to overall Group Device strategy.
Position MTN as the provider of choice for all Data needs in the market by developing and implementing strategies to drive internet usage growth, home/household connectivity and affordable smartphone/smart device ownership

Continuous Risk & Compliance Management & Reporting
- Perform and encourage continuous and effective risk management practice within your activities.
- Promote risk-based decision taken. Ensure effective escalation of key risks, compliance breach and non-ethical issues.
- Demonstrate and encourage ethical behaviors. Promote Business continuity best practices and compliance to applicable regulations and internal PPPs (Policy, Process and Procedures).
Key Focus Areas:
- Develop strategy to ensure home connectivity and smartphone/smart devices penetration for the prepaid consumer market including forecasts in the short, medium and long term for product performance, revenue and profitability.
- Generate Data revenue as per business plan
- Ensure the Home segment growth according to the company business strategy
- Manage relationships with MTN group, MTN’s staff within the department, other departments, partner agencies, suppliers, to achieve objectives
Data offers and Home segment Value proposition
- Drives the formulation of the Data Products and Home Strategy, as well as Data and Home product development roadmap of the products and services portfolio.
- Revenue responsibility for all Data and Home propositions, driving product conceptualization, design, pricing, financial viability, and Go-to-Market for all offers under the category.
- Tracks performance of Data and Home products/services against business case in terms of performance, uptake and profit, and develops and implement actions for improvement of performance.
- Monitors and assesses the market, innovations and technological advancements for the purpose of identifying potential products and services for development.
- Increase the market share of MTN Benin among Home and residential market
- Build and propose a complete value proposition designed for Home Market to build loyalty, including data offers and the enablers (devices) by leveraging relevant market and customer insights
- Design and develop product promotions and collateral in collaboration with Brand & Communications to drive take up, usage and profit of new data products/services. Ensure updates to product information on all relevant communication channels
- Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports in agreed formats and on a timely basis
- Support Consumer Products and Segments Senior Manager to deliver all revenue targets - Data, Home, and devices, with innovative value propositions to stimulate customer activity
- Liaise with the Network department and inform the deployment of network to make sure that the high potential areas are covered by 4G and 5G networks
- Prepare documentation related to the service/product design (Business Requirement Specs), Business case, Acceptance tests.
- Coordinates the launch of new data products/services with relevant departments, ensuring that relevant pre-launch activities such as ensuring availability of new product in the channels, training of Call Centre Agents and Service Centre staff and sensitization of MTN staff and are completed.
- Develops and tests system and processes, and procedures enabling new products/services to ensure user friendliness and effectiveness of products /services
Device strategy and stock management
- Drive the smartphone strategy and ensure effective ROI
- Select the device catalog and monitor sales and stock levels
- Understand and develop sound device financing options in-country to boost customers’ ability to afford smart devices
- Review Devices performance (along all defined criteria) and provide executive management with response actions in keeping in line with set business objective and goals and develop contingency plans as required to address shortfalls or excesses.
- Review internal and external environment including competition and develop a comprehensive strategy for devices considering the most effective and efficient ways in developing, launching and sustaining related products.
- Provide technical leadership /advice in the formulation and development of devices framework, policies and guidelines and ensure compliance of operations with MTN policies and procedures.
- Lead and collaborate with other business units in the development of devices’ business models for use in MTN Benin and develop measurement strategies to support ongoing strategy development and project optimization.
- Development of devices value propositions and go-to-market strategy including acquisition, and segment positioning.
- Keep abreast of current & future OEM product roadmaps, devices technologies and trends, and current and future wearables/accessory roadmaps
Budget management
- Manage annual OPEX budget
- Ensure smooth capex execution within allocated time
- Responsible for new product and value proposition business case approval
General
- Support analysis of ROI and effectiveness of both Brand and product communication campaign against competitor activity
- Nurture an effective working relationship with Technology/Distribution/Product/ BI and other relevant service units to ensure timely execution and delivery of plans
- Consult with Sales & Distribution/Customer Relations teams regarding Segment specific issues and delivery of world-class solution delivery
- Execute initiatives driving Brand Awareness and Affinity within the segments
- Work with the Trade Marketing team to apply segment insights to BTL programs that will support a differentiated MTN segment proposition
- Ensure strict adherence to the Go-To-Market process
Education
- A University Degree in Marketing or a related field
- Certification in Marketing or an MBA/master’s in marketing or a related field is an added advantage
Experience
- At least 5 years’ experience in product management, usage and retention and product life cycle management in telecommunications, product management and reporting in financial services, consumer electronics, or strategy and operations consulting with a strong understanding of mobile telecommunications.
- At least 2 years’ experience in a management position, in dynamic and fast-moving industries
