Department Overview

Chief Data Office is the Group Central Data and Analytics arm that works closely with the Group Businesses and Group Corporate functions to enable the execution of Nomura Group Strategy through Robust Data Standards & Governance, Actionable Performance Metrics & MIS, and High Impact Information and Analytics Products and Solution.


Job Purpose

Responsible for developing and implementing data governance strategies, policies, and procedures to ensure data quality, integrity, and compliance across the Asia ex-Japan (AEJ) market. 

 

Role Description 
Job Responsibilities
•    Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand data and AI requirements and develop governance frameworks aligned with organizational goals.
•    Define and implement data and AI standards, data quality rules, and metadata management processes to ensure data consistency and accuracy.
•    Establish data stewardship roles and responsibilities, and provide training and guidance to data stewards.
•    Monitor and enforce data and AI governance policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
•    Conduct data quality assessments, identify data issues, and implement remediation plans to improve data quality.
•    Develop and maintain data governance documentation, including data dictionaries, data lineage, and data quality metrics.
•    Define and agree plans to deliver target operating model strategy. Align operating model with data and AI governance requirements. 
•    Collaborate with IT teams to ensure data and AI governance processes are integrated into data management systems and tools.
•    Stay up-to-date with emerging data and AI governance trends, best practices, and technologies, and recommend improvements to existing processes.
•    Deep understanding of data and AI governance frameworks, data standards, metadata management, data quality, and data stewardship.
•    Deep understanding of relevant laws and regulations in relation to data and AI.
•    Maintain data governance metrics and reporting to track progress and ensure compliance with policies and standards.
•    Collaborate with business stakeholders to identify and prioritize data and AI initiatives.
•    Support data and AI audits and assessments to remediate areas of non-compliance and assist in improvements.
•    Deep understanding of AI ethics and guidelines, standards (including AI lifecycle, risk and compliance lifecycle, bias detection) and AI data governance tools to ensure responsible use of AI.


Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:
•    Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Financial Engineering, or STEM degrees.
•    At least 5 years of experience in data governance, data management, data strategy, risk management, technology risk consulting or a related field.
•    At least 3 years of experience in financial services institutions (directly or via consulting).
•    Strong understanding of data and AI governance frameworks, data standards, metadata management, data quality, and data stewardship.
•    Knowledge of laws, rules and regulations related to data and AI.
•    Understanding of AI ethics, guidelines, and standards, including AI lifecycle, risk and compliance lifecycle, bias detection, and AI data governance tools.
•    Understanding the critical role of data within the AI development life cycle and interdependencies.
•    Proficiency in data processing techniques, data cleansing, database management, data analysis, and data quality processes.
•    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
•    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve data-related issues.
•    High level attention to detail and good presentation, time management, and influencing skills. 
•    Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
