Job Summary:  We are seeking a Junior Data Scientist to join our maritime intelligence team at SynMax. You will be working as part of the Theia Tech Team, helping develop, maintain, and improve our current system. This role involves identifying and resolving errors in our processing pipelines, assisting the intelligence team with bespoke data analysis, and developing machine learning algorithms to enhance ship detection. The ideal candidate will have experience in data science, Python programming, and working independently while collaborating with the team. This is a hands-on role with opportunities for professional growth in a fast-paced, innovative environment. About Us: SynMax specializes in geospatial intelligence for the maritime and energy sectors, providing cutting-edge technology to solve complex industry challenges. Our system (Theia) tracks all the world's ships integrating multiple sources such as AIS and satellite imagery. Working with our partner Planet Labs we are ingesting millions of square kilometers of satellite imagery every day, identifying and tracking all the ships building a library of verified ship detections and identify when ships act out of the ordinary such as spoofing or going dark:

Responsibilities

  • Identify and resolve errors in processing pipelines, developing fixes, testing, and deploying solutions.
  • Support the intelligence team with bespoke data analysis.
  • Develop machine learning algorithms to analyze ship detection data.
  • Collaborate with the team to iterate and deploy new capabilities quickly.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of Python programming experience.
  • Demonstrated data science experience.
  • Familiarity with Git, SQL, and professional software development.
  • Experience using cloud systems (we use Google Cloud).
  • A proactive attitude towards learning and working independently with team support.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Additional software development experience.
  • Background in STEM.
  • Experience in data science, machine learning, or working with geospatial data.
  • Previous experience in the maritime domain or intelligence sector.
